There is going to be a public hearing where some of these amendments can be discussed including others not captured for now.

It's a first step and very commendable, especially as it is coming less than one year into the 10th Assembly.
what is commendable? The problem of our electoral system is the inability of results to get to INEC from the polling units directly. Results are altered and changed outside the polling unit.

So why is this nonsense amendment addressing it?

Until results are transferred from polling unit directly after voting, you are wasting your time.

Big consideration should be given to

1. Electronic verification of voters
2. Electronic and live voting and automatic upload of vote counts

That will improve authentication and reduces manhours and wastage of resources

It stopped it by making it visible. The docile citizens did nothing!

Do you think American citizens or British citizens will see such a thing and do nothing?

It is not because of the docility of the citizens.
The last general election was the best ever conducted by INEC.
But we allowed ourselves to be deceived by those who lost to believe that it was the worst ever.
That made us to ignore the strong features INEC had introduced.
Instead of trying to seek ways to enhance these feature and plug the loopholes, we joined in the condemnation of the entire process.
Everyone kept on hammering on real time electronic transmission of the results and ignored the fact that accreditation is the most important thing in an election and not the result.
INEC had managed to get the accreditation right for the first time since 1993, yet we allowed ourselves to be deceived that the general election was a total sham.
In the last off season elections, INEC simply gave the people what they said they wanted.
Accreditation data and the results were all transmitted electronically real time to the iREV.
And we are now back to the era of writing the results at home. As long as it is electronically transmitted, it is credible.

No 3 still doesn’t state that the electronic transmission must happen at the polling unit.

Without that caveat, a presiding officer can still conduct the election and decide that he doesn’t want to transmit the result at the polling unit, he can do it at his office as long as he does it electronically

I love ur attention to observation. Nlders hardly read across the line; thus, this is for you

these are jokers ....there will be no meaningful impact of this so called amendments as long as the president hand picks and appoints the INEC chairman and INEC commissioners . The first step is to make these offices a parliamentary appointment. All these other things are drama and hogwash

I’m surprised this kind of bill is coming from an APC Rep Member.

But the big question is, will Tinubu sign it if the lawmakers pass it? I guess not. Because that would be signing his death warrant.

I like especially, the proposal that all elections be held on same day.

Had all elections held on same day in the last election, Labour Party would have had nothing less than 10 governors right now.

I hate the bandwagon effect that comes with whoever is declared president (rightly or wrongly). His party is always has an edge during the governorship elections. So, that’s a good proposal.

Then, mandatory electronic transmission of votes is another good one. But I didn’t see the punishment for failure to do so.

I propose that there should be stringent punishment that would be meted on any INEC staff that fails to keep to any letters of the Electoral Act. And such failure should also invalidate such elections.

But then, will Tinubu sign it?
You can write a letter to the office of the rep member on the loopholes you just mentioned now because sometimes they don’t see those things and their aides don’t see them too. Can they pass into law by overriding tinubu if he refuses to sign. Also I would have preferred they criminalize and add stringent strict liability laws if INEC chairman refuses to follow the law like INEC chairman did during the last elections.

In addition to the above, where the result electronically transmitted (result in Irev) is at variance with the physically collated result, the former supersedes the latter.

The presiding officer shall transfer and/or transmit the results including total number of accredited voters and the results of the ballot ELECTRONICALLY.

This is the only part that matters to me

What are you even saying? It seems you want a situation where your unpopular candidates can win

Like I said the problem we have in Nigeria is English. We speak but we don’t understand. When you sit for an exam, the results are marked, verified and then announced. If the results are announced electronically without verification and all that matters is what is electronically transmitted, then a hacker can simply hack the server and what you wrote does not matter. Ultimately the results originate from the results signed at the polling unit and there must be a paper trail for verification and to prevent hacking.

An unpopular candidate cannot win an election under the current system because there is a paper trail of evidence. Electronic transmission is exactly what will bring about unpopular candidates winning because they will simply hack the server. No server in unhackable!

Ultimately he only proof of who won an election is the manual collation of polling unit results of which every party agent and the police have copies.

The real problem is some Nigerians never accept results except they win and whatever system you give them they will complain. Only in Nigeria will someone who got 200 votes contest a result against someone who got 10,000. Anybody with common sense knows the reason Atiku and Obi lost is because they parted ways. If they stayed together and got 12.7m votes they won’t say INECrigged the election. It is not INEC’s fault PDP did not get its house in order or Obi felt he was bigger than PDP.

Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso together got 14.7m votes. If they had found a way or a permutation to stay together, one of them would be president because Nigerians Rejected APC. APClost 4 millions votes from 2019, going from 12.6 to 8.7m votes. So Nigerians did their bit but the opposition failed to do its bit and instead split its votes. There is nothing wrong with the current system or INEC. The results are fair and legitimate which is why neither Atiku or Obi could provide ( or attempted to provide) any evidence of rigging and instead based their entire case on disqualification.

People look for someone or something to blame but themselves. That is why neither Obi or Atiku learnt from 2019 and they clearly have learnt nothing from 2023.

Aside from the first clause of his proposal, I support the other clauses in their entirety especially the one that seeks to compel INEC to conduct all elections on the same day.

They should be a heavy fine on a party who prevent others from voting for a candidate of their choice. Like what some people were prevented from voting in Lagos

No one prevents another, all parties are thiefs in Thier strong hold.
They should state that election to be done btw 10am -12noon using your NIN only once and vote on your phone linked with your fingerprint, voters card and NIN on Inec serv .
So let's politicians buys phones with fingerprint facilities for everyone in the villages and link the NIN. Voters no loose. Lolz
