Lets say a new/certified pre-owned Yaris cost $10,000.

In 2015
This would have cost a Nigerian about N2,000,000 with the exchange rate at the time.

In 2024
This same vehicle, assuming the same price, would cost a Nigerian N15,000,000 at todays exchange rate.

This is ridiculous.

This is true, I remember buying a brand new car 2009. The same car is almost N20m

Mom retired as a headmistress in 2009 .. Her pension was 83k. A bag of foreign rice was 5200..while local was 3300 thereabouts . Her salary could have gotten her about 26 bags of rice then (we contemplated a rice trade for her then)


Fastfoward to 2023 December a bag of local rice was 72k in my locality.. mom could only buy a bag with her salary of same 83k..

83k then was big money.. she was even borrowing us money then to stock up on seasonal goods,now 83k can't even buy her monthly antihypertensives and diabetic drugs . Sometimes the whole 83k goes with just a doctor's appointment..tests n dugs..Thank God for her Children..

And some people want Nigerians to thank Tinubu for doing what he did to Nigerians for his selfish ambition...

A Yaris too is no longer $10,000. It's now $16,000 for the basic trim from the manufacturer. Not as bad as the naira though.

My friend has been crying badly a health treatment he wanted so badly like his life depends on it was 2m in 2015 it's now 20m no kidding 😔😥
