Asaba-Delta State House of Assembly, Wednesday, commended Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for complying with its resolution by ordering contractors handling projects to return to site.

The House also set up an administrative panel of inquiry to investigate the slow pace of work by the contractors.

While welcoming members after adjourning indefinitely in protest over delay in projects execution, the Speaker, Mr. Victor Ochei, said: “As a follow up, we are setting up an administrative panel of inquiry to be headed by Mr. Johnson Erijo to examine the remote and immediate causes of non-performing contracts with a view to bringing erring contractors to book.”

Sitting of the panel will commence next week and it has two weeks to conclude its assignment.

The House also condemned a recent advertorial in the media by the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP in the state.

The House had, at its sitting on October 27, passed a resolution, calling “on Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to direct all contractors handling critical projects in the state, especially those handling drains in Asaba and the dualisation of Asaba/Ughelli Road, to ensure they were urgently completed so that Deltans can enjoy the dividends of democracy.”

The House had adjourned indefinitely until the motion was complied with.

At its resumed sitting yesterday, members passed a resolution absolving Uduaghan of any blame over contractors’ slow pace of work and passed a resolution of vote of confidence on him.
