That's interesting. It seems you are familiar with OAU and/or you got your information from a credible source.

It would be good if you could get us more info on exactly what happened. Most of us commenting on here are speculating (and quite wildly too!) so it would be great if someone with the facts could set things straight.

Even if it is true that the deceased fed the lion from birth, the normal practice in zoological gardens is to cancel all direct human contact once cubs in captivity are above a few months old...and are starting to grow into sub-adults. I personally do not believe the deceased was permitted by OAU rules to go into the enclosure with the lion in it...once cubs reach the sub-adult stage they can maim or severely maul a human being and it is no longer safe to allow direct human contact - not to talk of a 9 year old lion. Although not all zoos have the same policies, safety protocols in general do not usually allow humans into the same enclosure as the animal unless the animal has been sedated.
