Rest.. BUA is even selling at a higher price..

With $1 going for N1826

And will reach 2k in less than a week..it can never be cheaper than the locally made ones..

FG should de-register all the BDX operators in Nigeria.. then let all FX transactions be done only at the banks.

It's paining me how those in government don't know the power they wield.. CAC should sit up and start de-registering those bureau de change guys, then they'll sit up.

This is why Nigeria is in a mess today - dumping foreign goods. If the government opens the border, there will be more food exports to other West African nations due to the imbalance of the Naira to the CFA. Nigeria needs to increase food production to meet local needs and for export.
But most farmer have been chased out of their farms. By fulani herdsmen.

So you expect, these farmers to risk their lives.

Don't just open it for cement importation, also allow rice, beans, tomato, wheat etc to be imported

And you think opening the border will reduce the price?

Lol...

It will not work!..

Remove BDC?..Who will satisfy the needs of the average Nigerians who needs dollars..
Until the banks can support the demand for FX..BDC /black market remains

closing the border started the inflation in the first place
Re: FG Threatens To Open Border For Cement Importation by dominique(f): 6:33pm On Feb 20
Who are they threatening gangan bayii? The corrupt manufacturers who they're in cahoots with? Local manufacturers have shown us why we need to continue to depend on importation. Because they have little or no external competition, they decide to create artificial scarcity and overinflate the prices of their goods. Nigerians are the no.1 problem of Nigeria.

Devaluing the naira without a strong export base will always hurt. It will surely create the imbalance we are seeing now in inflation.

China, in competition with the US, usually devalues to attract cheap exports. Its export base is strong.
It is not only devaluing the naira alone that has crippled the economy, you can go back to the removal of fuel subsidy without functioning refineries and even go right back to when Buhari closed the borders without farming inputs to spur the farming populace into action and less I forget the ignoble Emefiele and his foolish cash swap policy too.

Re: FG Threatens To Open Border For Cement Importation by Karleb(m): 6:51pm On Feb 20
I don't know how to explain it but opening up the borders will make life dependent things cheap, naira might be in shambles but things like food will be cheap.

But the dickhead will never do that in a million years.

But selling cement at x3 of the previous price is not acceptable. There is no justification for the x3 of the price of cement at all

Local manufacturers won't like this

The same price survey they did on the Dollar v Naira abi?

Una deserve everything wey una dey see.
See, like the minister said, most of these so-called manufacturers are just being greedy. Imagine stating your production cost in dollars when most of your raw materials are found in Nigerian soil, is that not wickedness!
Re: FG Threatens To Open Border For Cement Importation by okeke6969: 7:13pm On Feb 20
We were told that gas we are using is imported.
So, due to manufacturers high cost of cement, they made a U-turn that after all gas is sourced locally. This goes to show that this government are intentional to deal with it's citizens.
Re: FG Threatens To Open Border For Cement Importation by Timothy89(m): 7:15pm On Feb 20
Tinubu brought all this to himself, you don't take a decision as sensitive as subsidy removal even in your 3months in office

It is obvious his cry of naira scarcity was not intentional, if it is, he wouldn't remove the last hope of Nigerians on the first week of resumption, that's cruel

Removing subsidy destroy everything, now he's still paying the subsidy hence this hardship would have add to the fuel price, so unfortunate

Key input materials for cement production such as limestone, clay, silica sand, and gypsum sourced within our borders, should not be dollar-rated.

With current exchange rate, going to like 3000/$ in less than 30 gays, imported cement might even cost more

Nigeria is not the only country "importing", benine republic import far more than Nigeria yet there economy is not in comatose

Us is the largest Net Importer of finsihed goods,

Importing is a problem but how we spend dollar within our economy is even the bigger problem, Nigerians now prefer to save there money in dollars in a Naira economy.

level of confident in a currency is what kills it or strengthens it

my question now is that why is the dollar increasing rapidly? By the end of his week or early March, the dollar rate will hit 2k per dollar. Inflation keep increasing, price of foodstuffs keep increasing.

I still don't know why the govt is hesitant and relunctant to open land borders, what is left to lose

Policies are meant to be Review, when our land borders were open, was the cost of living & naira value these bad and ever since we decided to ply on reinstating local production what have Nigerians gain .. its being one bad news to the others cos aside high cost of production Nigeria are generally selfish.

The so called "local rice farmers" are responsible for the high cost of rice in the country, we were buying a bag of rice for 8k until Government decided it want to support local rice farmers by closing the borders..now a bag of rice is 70k.
Same thing with poultry; we all remember how frozen chicken was affordable and all over the place until local farmers were introduced into the equation, now a sizable chicken goes for as much as 15k, a fully grown turkey is priced at 40k.
The policy clearly did not produce the results it intended, time to get rid of it and open up our borders
