I have heard many people ask this ridiculous question as a way to say that Nigeria doesn't deserve stable and efficient power supply. Who are those buying petrol to power their generators? Who are those buying cooking gas? Ghosts? If you go to refill gas or buy petrol, majority don't fill their cylinders or fuel tanks. They buy what they can use for the day or week. If all customers are on prepaid, they can buy any amount they like. One can buy 500 naira of power token to charge his phone and laptop and it will last him for months while another will buy 10,000 naira that will pump water, power fridge, TV, for a month. |

jmoore: Those who need it most can afford it considering how much they spend on fuel every month. |

I don't want to put a statistical figure to it, but I know for certain that most Nigerians cannot afford to pay for 24-hour power supply. This is why they always bypass their meters. When a Nairalander boasted to me that he buys petrol every day so he could afford to pay for power, I simply told him that he doesn't have the privilege of stealing the fuel from the petrol station and going scot-free. If had that opportunity, he wouldn't pay for it. Believe it or not, we don't have the mentality of paying bills in Nigeria, while some are too broke to pay. That's why parts of Lagos where rich people live like Lekki are more likely to enjoy steady power supply than where poor people live because the former strata can afford to pay for steady power. This is what EEDC does. Power isn't cheap! Read this news and gain more insights: https://www.thecable.ng/extra-borno-residents-protest-24-hour-electricity-supply/amp Cc Kaycee9242 3 Likes 1 Share |

Every household should be provided with a prepaid meter. That way, the ball is in their court. No one should be saddled with estimated billings dredged up from the assholes of some greedy pole-climber. Also stable power supply is an invitation for commerce and industry. Have stable power supply and see businesses and factories springing up in your community. These are the true targets of power companies. |

SoNature:EEDC that brings estimated billing where darkness was supplied. Is food cheap? Some can afford turkey, while others can afford kpomo. You have no idea how many billions they make from the 'poor'. |

SoNature: Very true. Many of the discos have even divided the country into four bands. Band A gets high amnounts of power, band D gets limited. IN addition, there is the fact that many discos cannot under the rules charge cost reflective tarrifs. Keeps the people happy, but keeps the sector too broke to pay for much needed improvements. |
