What is the purpose ofr engine number if engines can be replaced anytime.A VIN number should be enough(as if they have a database to refer to)

get a gpood mechanic to check the engine no or check for the location of the engine no via web search. What kind of mazda is that.

The engine nos is there.ask a Mazda 626 mechanic to look for it for u.its not easily spotted .
Mine too came with only the chassis nos.so dont despair.

I Have not noticed any engine number on cars recently. Nigeria government is still stuck on colonial tactics the english used to restrain us, and they feel all powerful as the new master with a strong hold on our leash. If you can't check a VIN/license plate to know if a car is stolen at a check point why bother.In how many developed country do you see static check points, 300m apart day after day?

Engine number and VIN are two isolated descriptions. Specs and variances can be determined through the engine number. VINS are for marketing and identification purposes issued by ISO. If I am correct, it's only limited to the United States.

Every car has an engine number. Not every car has a VIN. When registering a car in most countries including Nigeria, the engine number forged on the block is used.
