Hello everyone.

Please, I need your advice as I am confused at the moment.

I am to choose between the job of 130k on the mainland or job of 330k on the island. Pls note that I started the 130k few months ago and I spend 600naira daily on transport (about 13k on transport for a month). It is on the mainland and not far from my area. No traffic or whatsoever. My colleagues are amazing people, and the workplace is super convenient. I didn't apply for the job, but the CEO gave it to me when I messaged him that I needed job, so he decided to help me by giving me the job. He is a good man who cares about people. I can say that he motivates me a lot.

I am to start the 330k soon, but it is on the island, and I am to spend about 4k on transportation (about 90k). I will still have the balance of 240k left on me after removing transportation.
I am confused because I don't know how to discuss it with the CEO who assisted me. I am thinking that he will feel bad, and our relationship will be affected. Sincerely, he is a good man, and he motivates me a lot, but the pay is small compared to the new offer I got.
Both jobs are secured and safe.

Please, advise me.
Which one should I go for, and why?
Thank you.

I feel that the CEO will be happy because you're growing, and besides, he will be able to help another person. It's a win-win for you.
Another thing is that at the end of the month, you will still have double the amount you would have had, even after the transportation.
Don't let the mainland proximity fool you, go for the better pay, you need it, your family need it.

That doesn't really apply here. once she gets to Ojuelegba from the Island, Idiaraba is a piece of cake.
Will she fly from Lekki to Ojuelegba ? My friend who lives in Ajah and works in VI gets home around 11pm most days let alone someone who lives in Idiaragba and will be commuting through public transport.

I think you forgot that period they were fixing Eko Bridge. Third Mainland and carter Bridges were hell.
You are right about Bonny camp though depending on the timing. Lekki Tollgate dey alway move at least cuz of Lastma at least . Anywhere after Lekki phase1, count me out abeg, especially from 3 pm onwards.
You should think about the exponential increase in cost of living though and the brackish kinda water on the Island in your potential relocation plans

uniquetechng:
The traffic situation isn't any better, I frequent Lekki because of my business, I and my wife are already thinking of relocating to the Island this year because of the stress I faced each time I go to the island despite not using public transport.
Train stops at CMS, 3rd mainland bridge has never been a place of traffic if you stay or frequent the Island.
Most times to navigate Bonny camp takes hours because of heavy traffic, and yeah the Lekki Tollgate is there.

Hahahaha you have firsthand knowledge of what is happening on the Island, I won't go beyond Ikota lie lie. The quotations we have gotten for rent and service charges are outrageous, but we're still looking at areas that are not prone to flooding and estates with good water .

jobs na waste of one's life and youth.

Also commuting to the Island from Mainland na die these days. Even People living in Lekki Phase 2 downwards are complaining.

You might consider getting a room at Iyana Oworo. That should make life a bit easier for you

You only seeing it from the tp angle. You dunno price of food will humble you on the island.
And the way transport fare hikes in Lagos you won't be surprised that by the end of the year you will be paying times 2 of what you calculate there for transportation.
Anyways what do I know?

As for me the stress of going from mainland to Island is a no no for me. IMO I think people that live on the mainland and work on the island should be paid double. Cos commuting from the mainland to the Island alone is another job on its own.

Imagine coming back from work and you so exhausted that you can't do nothing but shower and go to bed cos your whole body is aching like you did farm work. Only to repeat same the next day. Chai

Mainland job, 130k - tf 13k = 117k

Island job , 330k - tf 90= 240k.

240 - 117 = 123k difference.

If I were you, I will removed 50k from my extra 123k, which is 600k pa and get a decent apartment at Island. Let assume you pay 250k pa at mainland, you can join it with 600k, making 850k to get decent apartment at Island. You still have 73k extra. 850k is about 2 and half month salary of your Island job. It is still better considering the ease of getting to work withiout necessary have to worry about traffic or eating out. You will have enough time to cook at home, instead of wasting money on substandard expensive foods at restaurants.

If you apply above strategy, your income will still stood at 203k net per month.

The pay is quite ok. Have you subtracted your feeding allowance or the company gives food. If after removing you feeding money you still get up to 200-250k start the work asap

My advice for you would be that you should follow your heart even though I will personally choose the Island Job rather than the mainland Job due to higher pay and other benefits.

Secondly, I don’t know how this sounds but I’d appreciate it if you refer me to any vacant jobs you come across that’s available. I live in the mainland and I’m in search of a Job so badly. I’m a graduate. I studied Engineering. I’m computer savvy With good problem solving skills. Thank you in anticipation.

Think about the advantages and disadvantages of the two jobs.

Then pray about it as well.

Not every opportunity is God's plan for you.

But the most important thing is that you should be take due diligence before making final decision.

The ball is still in your court.

what do you think?

I think the main issue here is that you are so much attached to this your present job and because of the good relationship that exist there is you are finding it difficult to detach yourself from them by leaving them for another job

Well you just have to leave to face other challenging jobs and exposures that will help build your future
