Renowned Nigerian literary icon, Professor Chinua Achebe, has for the second time in seven years rejected an offer of a National Honour by the Nigerian government.

Professor Chinua Achebe rejected the award of the Commander of the Federal Republic that President Goodluck Jonathan had meant to confer on him.

Professor Achebe, globally recognized as one of the world’s most outstanding novelists and intellectuals, rejected the “national honor” in a terse statement.

What does he need the honor for? It does not add anything to his life. Just a title. At least he understands more than all those people using money to buy it. An Honor by the Nigerian government, a govt that focuses on giving honors than taking care of the poor masses. Honor my Foot!
