What he is trying to say is bcs of the devalue of the naria, there is no gain. So if the marketers follow the current economic situation of the devalue naira, fuel should be around 1000 not #600. If naira is around #400. Fuel should not be around #600.

Subsidy returned? And we're still buying fuel with outrageous prices? Are you kidney mee?

The international price of petrol right now, on Wed Mar 6 2024, is over ₦950 per liter.

You can find this price on any commodity trading platform or quote site under RBOB or EBOB or something similar. If you call any refinery in the world asking to buy, that is the likely approximate quote you'll get, and that includes Dangote.

So what is the price of fuel in Nigeria today? If it's less than ₦950, government is paying a subsidy and we know the corruption and waste that goes with it.

The source of the subsidy is the forex market which has been rigged by the CBN.

Due to many different factors, NNPC is still the sole importer or supplier of fuel in Nigeria. That's HOW the government dictates fuel price in the country.

Good Luck to Nigeria

as outrageous as the current price is, subsidy is being paid. If not a little should be above #1,000 without subsidy. The govt knows the effect of allowing it get to the amount.

The landing cost is the TOTAL cost of bringing a liter of petrol to a consumer in Nigeria. It's likely a small amount added to ₦950...the cost of transport, storage and tax and whatever else. Maybe ₦150 extra? I get your point. Thanks.

It's clear the government is still paying a subsidy on petrol.

Good Luck to Nigeria

He should have just shut up to be honest. Or dodged the question. Instead of talking about a "gap" and how government "may" be plugging that "gap".

The funny thing is the govt has been touting "reforms" based on subsidy removal and naira devaluation.
They have been working overtime to present those two monsters as a positive thing for the country and an hallmark of Tinubu's leadership credentials to make tough choices.
If they now turn around to say subsidy is back, it will be an admission of failure on their part and for a govt that's been fumbling on all cylinders

smuggling was never reduced. tinubu technically encourage smuggling when he devalue and float the naira (Biggest mistake tinubu ever made). with this, naira weakens and become cheaper to neighboring countries to buy our oil. its not only oil but other farm produce. thats why massive trucks are going out of the country to neighboring countries,

in summary, smuggling have continue

Obasanjo has no blame in the refinery issues. He sold the PHC refinery to a private company in maybe 2007. They paid the cash price. And of course Nigerians protested to high heavens. Google is there, anyone can check.

President Yaradua came in and reversed the sale. And refunded the money paid. And PHC refinery remained dormant with NNPC, racking up massive losses and people getting paid salary for producing NOTHING.

I have no doubt that the private investors would have revived that refinery. Other public companies sold have become productive and profitable

Please let's be fair on these matters.

Good Luck to Nigeria.
