This is not the right move honestly. It is obvious the Federal Government of Nigeria is tired of spending billions to feed these inmates. Rather than decongest the prisons, the Federal Government of Nigeria should look at ways of generating revenues through these able-bodied young men just languishing in prison, eating our foods and contributing nothing to the economy. It may interest you to know that those Chinese Construction workers are prisoners in their country almost completing their jail term. We can adopt same model. We have fallow lands where these inmates can work and boost Agriculture. All will be well. 28 Likes 6 Shares |

With the current hunger in the land, some prisoners will even prefer to stay back & be eating free watery beans. 3 Likes |

This is supposed to be the core responsibility of the Attorney Generals from Federal to States...! But they are not interested. If they decide to commit just one month to looking into cases and files of most inmates, the prisons will be decongested... Hundreds of wrongfully imprisoned individuals would be discovered. 2 Likes |

Build bigger and more modern Prison Complexes and integrate industrial estates and activities to these. Certain offenders should be able to work and even earn savings while in prison to help them start life when they serve their time. Don’t just keep people you feed for free. Let them make use of their time there to add value to the society. BUILD BETTER PRISONS TO COMFORTABLY TAKE MORE INMATES. 4 Likes |

That is just the number in prison, we never talk the number in cell, guardroom and underground. On a serious note, this is a failure of the judiciary. If there is anything that need serious rehab it is the judiciary Time to get justice served is too long and too wide. 2 Likes |

It's not only decongestion they should also push for renovation so that incase EFCC arrest and sends them to prison they will see where to sleep. They should be thinking about the future 3 Likes 1 Share |

Why not....70% of the reason those correctional centres are overfilled lies directly at the doorsteps of THE JUDICIARY!!! Bunch of lazy people! They try like 1 case a day for 3 days in week and still give unnecessary adjournments upandan! See evidence, hear some mumble jumble lawyer pleads, give your judgments: Death by whatever (e.g hanging/firing squad ), BUT STATE THAT EXECUTION MUST BE CARRIED OUT WITHIN THE NEXT 30 or 60 DAYS!!!(not indefinitely which becomes 5-10 years Awaiting-Exectn!) DO IT IN DAYS!!; Life imprisonment, sharpsharp!, etc. For the life of me judges are being treated with soft/kids gloves by the Governments......they are also few in number, but they are toooooo slow in judgments. [Adjournments should not be more than once--if you dont turn up, case is given in your absence as if you're there] RINSE. REPEAT. NEXT!!!! Congestion problem Solved! 1 Like

TINTINABULATION:Is the de-congestion by releasing the inmates or by building more prison centers? |
Re: Reps Seek Decongestion Of Nigeria’s 244 Correctional Centres by DJMix2025: 6:39pm On Mar 06 |
lemme explain The Nigerian House of Representatives is taking steps to decongest the country's 244 correctional centers. This move aims to address the overcrowding and improve conditions within these facilities. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the correctional system in Nigeria. The focus on decongestion reflects concerns about the state of these centers and the need for reforms to ensure better outcomes for inmates and staff. Government must not release hardened criminals like Evans, Rev. King and Nnamdi kanu in the name of decongestion. They should expand the prisons and make the inmates grow their own foods. This is a big opportunity to move from consumption to production just like Saint Obi preaches. Imagine an hardworking criminal like Nnamdi kanu being tasked with pig farming. He will bath them, clean their poo and definitely ensure there is enough pork meat to go around. |

let there be separation/ state prisoners should be take care by state Government / Why federal prisoners should be take cared by federal government, ✓Let state government start to build their own prison, ✓Now State police is coming ✓Is it federal government that we be feeding state offenders |

Re: Reps Seek Decongestion Of Nigeria’s 244 Correctional Centres by Blue3k(m): 7:46pm On Mar 06 |
The answer is simple. Just stop accepting new state law offenders. Assuming you stop accepting the by 2025 the prisons will decongest after most serve their sentences. The lifers can be transferred to state prisons when built. |
