10k was not lot of money then .

It was just a little money that could pay ur transport to n fro Lagos.

My salary then was close to a 100k tho

He was meant to be paid 35k not 10k

Is like you don't know what you are talking about self. 10k then is more than 300k nowadays if you should do an exchange rate. How much is a bag of rice now? Around 2014 a bag of rice was around 7,500. 10k in 2000 will buy you around 5 bag of rice.

In 1998, a plate of Eba with egusi was N30.

That 10,000 could buy 333 plates of food. Let's say a plate of food now is 600, that 199,998.

Another way

Naira the
n was $1-N80

10,000÷80 = $125

$1-N1,600

So, $125 x 1,600 = 200,000

Your maths is good grin grin

My first salary was 5k

It was in a cybercafe and I will almost use the money to pay for shortages.....

Most months end, I will go home with 2k and most months I go home with nothing.

So we know that except you have a foundation led for you, nobody has it that easy.....

Me was 5k too 2005 in one house agent in PH.... But today I collect about 400k as certified Architect in Abj under somebody BUT earn more when I do a private contract job.

From that 5k, I remembered I saved cash because my working place was closed to my house. I was able to save n buy DVD player then add money to the one my cousin gave me to go and learn a program called AutoCAD which navigated to my dream career Architecture. grin

Nigeria was not as dollarized then as it is now..
We weren't looking at dollar as people do now.

Flight to Lagos from Portharcourt then was about 7k or 8k

When I say 10k wasn't much in year 2000 ,I wonder why people are shouting.

Flight to London then was within 120k or less or a little higher .

10k was alot money back then because Naira was strong then and things were way cheaper, I remember vividly saving up to 20k back then, most of the money came from my rich uncles lol.

I went to the market and bought alot of nice jeans and t-shirts, Snickers and a whole lots of stuffs and I still had some money remaining.

Fact is that 10k then was like 100k now.
Well I would say that 10k then should be around 50k now..
Or 40k

U don't compare cost like that.

Nigeria is under going inflation caused artificially by the thriving political class.

That u buy a bag of rice 70k in Nigeria is insane.
Only 8 years ago that bag of rice was 8k

Naira only lost it value .

A 50kg bag of rice was within 2k as of the year 2000. Meaning 10k can give u 5 bags of rice then. But can 200k give u 5 bags of 50 kg rice now? Even bag of cement was between 400 to #500 then

To you, 10k naira might be a little money during the year 2000, but to the average Nigerian, 10k was a lot of money because my salary before I resigned from my job in December 2005 was around 25k naira per month.

Considering that the minimum wage in Nigeria during the year 2000 was 5500 naira, therefore, your 100,000 naira per month salary made you one of the highest-paid individuals in the country.
There was no much difference in naira and salary within year 2000 and year 2004.

70k to 120k range were ok salaries .

Nitel staff were earning around 60k n above n were making lots of money.

Be realistic and forget about tips or other money made illegally. How many Nigerians were making 60k naira from 2000 to 2004?

Ur naira has been badtadized and this comparison isn't the right tool to measure what we r saying.
Only 2014 , naira to a dollar was 180 but a bag of rice was about 9k

In 2000 if a bag of rice was 2k then in 2014 as compared to 2000 :, 10k should v bought 5 bags

Since dollar increased by 80 naira by 2014, then a bag of rice could v been 4k n not 9k so u see.. u don't measure economic indices that way with forex.

Nigeria entered into the hands of pillaging gangs in apc n Buhari was not professional in handling the economy.. he was clannish, vindictive n nepotistic.

The burden is now on tinubu to rescue the economy.

Truth is that it's not easy but I give him kudos for the courage..

Nothing is working out it seems but once things start going positive, the works his name eam is doing will be appreciated but my concern is about the looting attitude of political class.

Our politicians can loot all the dividends and leave and empty Treasury to the future generations.

If there is a strong system to curtail stealing and the money is allowed to revolve in the economy without leakages , things will be better.

Now I know that you're not being realistic, and you don't have any point to back your claim.

What was the population of employed Nigerians in 2000, and how many were in either the telecom or oil sectors?

The answer is "less than one percent.".
Re: Rita Dominic: I Was Paid N10,000 For My First Movie Role by hansomb: 12:17am On Mar 11
If 1 Dollar is #100 then. And she's paid N35000 then. How much is that now considering 1 dollar is now #1,500 and factoring in inflation. That in my spiritual calculation should be around #3.5 million now. Not bad for a first timer.
