The question is were the police dressed in official uniform and with a police vehicle? The victims may have assumed it was another gang of kidnappers.

Nonetheless, acting erratically in front of armed men is always dicey. You can't outrun a bullet.

The error was in the line of duty. I doubt they're liable to pay any fine. It's very sad.

They are obviously lying. We all know Nigeria Police don't go after robbers. They set up road blocks to extort motorists and sometimes in the process shoot at innocent civilians who don't cooperate with them.

U.S Based-Nigerian Consultant, Ifeanyi Eze Offers N500K To Anyone Who Can Disappear And Reappear With Juju

US-based educational consultant Ifeanyi Eze offers a N500k cash reward to anyone who can use juju to disappear and reappear.

Ifeanyi stated in a Facebook post on Wednesday that he issued the challenge in December 2023, but it has yet to be accepted.

He reaffirmed that the N500k award is still up for grabs and stipulated that those interested must show that they can disappear and return in front of five or more persons.

“I promised to give someone N500k if they could disappear and reappear last December. We haven’t seen anyone yet. The award is still available. Go find any spiritual person you choose, and then let them vanish in front of five or more people. We require authenticated proof!” he wrote.

Was he carrying gun? Even if he was a kidnapper, as long as he wasn't armed, he shouldn't be considered a threat. Arresting him would be more logical and helpful. Dumb people

What a pathetic excuse by the police!
As a police officer,you are to disarm a suspected criminal without resorting to fatality unless in self defense!
If they had stopped the occupants professionally and made their inquires,they would have even assisted these men to secure the kidnapped victim!
Someone in the police must be held accountable plus a huge financial compensation package for the victim's family to serve as a deterrent to other trigger happy policemen and women!
Totally unacceptable!

I fail to fathom the kind of response and defense the police is giving over the indiscriminate killing of a human being. Over zealous, trigger-happy set of people who will run and hide if it was real criminals they encountered.

Even the Nigeria Army will never shoot directly at a terrorist suspect, rather they will fire warning shots, if you respond with fire , then the exchange can start ...so the question, was there a return fire ....We really need to retrain the Nigeria Police, although glad they are improving at least we should give it to them for admitting their wrong.

HOW WILL THE POLICE KNOW THEY WERE UNARMED. INSTEAD OF OBEYING THE POLICE ORDER, THEY ZOOMED OFF. WITH THE INFORMATION WITH THE POLICE, THEY SUSPECTED THAT THEY MUST BE AMONG THE ROBBERS.

Useless untrained operatives. Trained personnel would not have been so careless in handling letal weapon. If not for public outcry, those who shout police is your friend, would have tagged them armed robbers. The family should demand heavy compensation, even though no amount equates the huge loss.
