Serving Corper Or Ghost Corper? by Transpose: 12:42am On Mar 26
These are basically two categories of corp members, two different pathways, two different patterns.
The Serving corp member is basically all out to serve his or her fatherland. He is ready to be posted to his place of primary assignment and will go and fulfill his duties. This is primarily the goal of the scheme.

On the other hand, ghost corpers are corp members who are not actively serving but are still in their service year. They'll show up only when necessary and would go ahead with their usual activities afterwards. These activities might include; a paid job, a professional skill or simply just taking a break from all the stressfulness of serving as a corp member in the comfort of their homes.

But why do some corp members choose to ghost their service knowing fully well that the service year is just a once in a lifetime thing? What happened to the favorite line of the anthem, "...under the sun and in the rain..."? Or are these our fellow corp members just proving smart?
First of all, "ghosting" does not come cheap. Many corp members pay a lot to secure that path. In an attempt to secure the "ghosting" path, some have lost money and are even gone into depression. Why then go through all the trouble?

Many at times, serving corp members are usually not posted in a beneficial PPA except of course you have an Uncle that knows somebody who knows somebody that knows somebody... You gerrit? well if you don't gerrit - forget abourit !

Most serving corp members are usually posted to schools even if they have no zeal for teaching and no experience whatsoever.
Serving corp members are often posted to rural areas where the amenities there are just limited. For instance, where I was posted, they had no bore hole, no network(you would literally walk around the community and even climb a pole searching for signal) and to top it all - no light.
It was a herculean task to find where to charge your phone and laptop every evening. Half of the area was not wired with electricity supply at all. It was quite an experience.

Drawing water from the well through the water bag was quite the challenge. I literally had muscle injuries because I wasn't used to that system of fetching water.
Cost of transportation to CDS from that community wasn't just on the fair side and the cost of living kept on increasing but Allawee no increase oh.

In a cab to CDS one day, the driver said to me, "you guys are being paid a lot of money these days, during my time in the 90's, we were only paid 5,000 naira". I said to him;
"Sir, what could you buy with 5k back then?
He replied, "Aaah, I will not lie for you, I could buy a bag of rice and still have change in my hand"
I said to him, "So, with the current amount corpers are being paid now, can it still buy a bag of rice? who then received higher Allawee?" He smiled.

Now, a serving corp member posted to a rural community would go through many of these challenges but will still receive the same allawee with every other corp member. This is one of the reasons some corp members would ghost their service and decide to learn a skill or pursue a career because during their service year because they might not be lucky to be posted in an environment that gives them the flexibility to achieve other things.

I am not saying that all serving corp members do not get posted in good PPA's. Some are fortunate to get a good place and have a good experience of their service year. There are PPA's that would even pay you almost twice of your monthly Allawee additionally. Thats a good PPA!

If you have a place like that as your PPA, you have no business with ghosting your service year because, I believe, the major reason many corp members ghost serving is so that they can SAVE.

Imagine working in an office that's paying you almost 2times of your allawee additionally - you will easily SAVE all of your monthly allawee by the end of your service year and can easily start up a business with the money afterwards. This is the sole aim for ghosting service except of course if you're not disciplined enough to Save money.

Please understand that I am not setting any path above the other.
A man once said, "Everyway is a way." If you find yourself locked up in a house that's burning with fire, and the doors do not seem to open; the windows could become a way, and even the ceiling could become a way.

Whatever path any corporation member has chosen, the important thing is to have a plan, know what you want to achieve out of your path. It could be experience, socialising, personal development, career development or even making money - know what you want !
If you're a serving corp member, one of the things that can help you have an edge is "Having a Skill that can make you Money". As a serving Corp member, one of the things that helped me to balance my allawee was the skill of graphics design and that was because I had a laptop. Today, you can create beautiful designs with your smartphone and still charge your clients as high as you would charge to design with a laptop.

In less than five (5) minutes, you can create trending Ai animations and hyper realistic images that you can monetize just like the images below.
I would like to share my knowledge with only few interested serving corp members via a FREE class on graphics design and Ai animation. What you will learn from my FREE 2-Day intensive training:
✅ How to create Trending Ai images
✅How to design a creative flyer with your smartphone
✅How to create your own customised Ai animation
and many more
This training is not for everybody, only those with a good smartphone and are serious minded. If you qualify, send me a dm via the number on the image below to receive the group link now!
