Opinion: Why President Tinubu Hasn't Approved Minimum Wage Increase Yet by TheRealestGuy(m): 2:56pm On Apr 14 |
This is a personal opinion first off. I have lived long enough as a Nigerian to understand that Nigerian politicians are a mostly a vile set of humans who can play politics with anything including terrorism and human lives. I am of the view that the simple reason why the minimum wage increase is yet to be effected is the same reason I mentioned above - politics. I think what the current administration plans to do is delay any minimum wage increases until 2026, so they can use it as leverage for the 2027 elections. We have a criminal mafia in charge now and I understand how they think. They will throw crumbs at Nigerian workers in 2026 in the name of an interim wage increase, make fake promises for when they are re-elected, and then leverage the desperation at that point. You can bookmark this post and we will review by 2026 and you will see how accurate it is. If this is not the height of evil then I don't know what is. Nigerian politicians only scheme and plot how to win elections and corner our common wealth. The welfare of the people is the least of their concern and they will use every weapon including terrorism, hunger and extreme poverty to win elections. I hope Nigerians wise up and resist this when the time comes. 1 Like 1 Share |

What a shit talk from you, yet you claimed you have lived long enough to understand bla bla bla. The President will be announcing the New Minimum Wage by May 1st which is Workers Day. So try and hide you face in shame when that eventually happens. 2 Likes |

I don't think so. Everything about the minimum wage will be done on or before May 29. Its implementation will take longer than May 29. The reason I said so is because Tinubu is desperate for anything to hold on to, at least to show what he has been able to achieve in the past year in office. Though it's my opinion 1 Like |

Wolexyoshi: Announcing is not implementation. Same way they announced no more subsidy but Nigeria is still paying subsidies as we speak. 1 Like |

When they approve it, they’ll also approve payment in arrears so that people enjoy some free money. But closer to the elections, a project will be started, similar to TraderMoni, that will be focused on specific regions of the country 1 Like |

Both parties involved have not even agreed on anything, and the NLC recently proposed another salary structure, so how did you want the government to sign and implement it? Read and understand the situation around you before coming online to display your ignorance, old man 1 Like |

Abbeytoy: Did Tinubu need to sign anything with anybody to remove subsidy on petrol or increase electricity tariff, or to increase tax, or to increase import duty or to remove the school funding to federal universities? So increasing salaries of workers requires committee, deliberation, agreement and signatures while the things I mentioned do not? Some of you guys really don't know who you are dealing with.... 3 Likes |

Brendaniel: It's not the same thing. Read, learn and not just talk. I understand you're angry and don't like how things are going on at the moment like many of us, but please learn not to mix things that are not the same. I wish you the best of luck 1 Like |
