Entrepreneur Trains 30 Youths On Glass Recycling In Lagos by Agebab: 6:02am On Apr 16 |
An entrepreneur, Mr Hammed Rauf, has trained 30 youths on glass recycling in Lagos. Rauf, the Chief Executive Director, Hamruf Global Limited, disclose this in Lagos on Monday. He said that the trainees were selected from the 114 youths who registered for the training. He said that the six-week training featured two weeks of virtual training during which the youth were trained on safety in glass, record keeping, marketing and business set-up, among others. “The four-week physical training took place at the Hamruf Global Limited workshop where they were taught how to turn glass bottles to cups and waste glasses to products. “They were taught how to cut glass and file the edge source for waste and so on,” he said . Rauf said that Hamruf Global was partnered on the project by American Corner, Ikeja, YALI RLC, Accra, Ghana, Rotary Club of Mushin Golden, Code Campus Nigeria and Crown Spring. “My view about glass recycling and what motivated me in turning waste glasses into wealth was about my community and country at large. “Why will there be waste when we know it is not wasted, when I know I can turn those broken bottles and waste glasses into money instead of dumping them into drainage or dumping sites and causing damage to people’s health? “My happiness is also to make an impact by training youths to create wealth through recycling of waste glasses and let the world know that waste is not wasted,” he said. Rauf, who said that he hoped to train 3000 youths in the next five years across the country, however, advised people to always appreciate locally-made products. According to him, it is painful that people disregard locally-made products, no matter the quality, in preference for foreign ones.
