The Yoruba Council Worldwide has written a petition to President Bola Tinubu over plans to demolish their properties of residents of Okun-Ajah community in Lagos State for the proposed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project.

In the petition dated April 22, 2024 and addressed to President Tinubu, President of Yoruba Council Worldwide, Aare Oladotun Hassan, asked the government to follow due process in handling the matter by reverting to the original gazetted Right of Way (RoW).

Hassan said the community checked at the Ministry of Physical Planning and got confirmation that their buildings did not encroach on the coastal road alignment’s RoW.

The petition read in part: “We are aware of the Federal Government's decision to construct the LAGOS - CALABAR COASTAL ROAD wherein ab initio, proper alignment verification had been carried out from the starting point at Bar Beach, Eti-Osa, Okun-Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, en route Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, terminating at Calabar coastline corridors and communities.

“The aforementioned communities had specifically preserved the marked original portions of the alignment for Right of Way (RoW) as gazzetted in the survey attached herewith to the CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY prepared and signed by the Lagos State Surveyor General.

“Interestingly, as approved by the Federal Government, this alignment had been marked by Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development since 2006/2013 respectively, and at no point did any of the aforementioned communities receive any formal communication (s) that the alignment of the coastal road had been shifted from the original alignment gazzetted by the Federal Ministry of Works, Lagos State Surveyor General alongside other adjoining Communities that fall within the LAGOS-CALABAR COASTAL ROAD PROJECT.

“However, we are aghast, as a body, to note with grave dismay how several law abiding citizens and innocent Nigerians who had legitimately bought and erected their properties, while all the ancestral communities with approved excisions and Global C of O took cognisance of the original alignment, and without any iota of intention to violate the existing right of way rules and regulations, nor commit any trespass encroachments as the case may be, would be subjected to such inhumane treatment.

“We have double-checked from records of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and other ancillary related records and facts, and it was obvious and crystal clear that the aforementioned victims did not encroach on the Right of Way of the coastal road alignment.”

“We hereby state unequivocally and categorically request that Mr. President call Senator Dave Umahi, Hon. Minister for Works, alongside the Lagos Government and other States to order and ask all parties to revert to the status quo which is the original gazzetted Right of Way.”

While some never-do-wells are saying it was Igbos that are against good things coming to their southern neighbors.

Those agbadorians will not end well

How will you end?

When you are running after Danfo buses selling Gala and La Casera inside Lagos hold-ups, how do you think you will end up?

A good road project will have surveys to know details about its route from end to end.

I don’t think there was any survey or feasibility study about this road project.

Fire brigade approach isn’t the best way to adopt in carrying out a gigantic project like this.

As good as the project is, it’s poor and controversial start may create more enmity for the government than the good it’ll bring.

I keep telling people that the controversy over this project will never cease.
A lot of people have encroached on the Coastal Road, the present President has a lot of knowledge about this Road and he will surely tell the Minister to do the needfuli
The issue with most communities along the Coastal Road is that they are seriously hoping Government will redirect the Road

People living in Okun Mopo,Akinlade,Alpha Beach inwards from Igboefun Bus Stop,Sangotedo might need to visit the office of the State Surveyor General of Lagos State
I know of someone who lost close to 4 properties on that stretch of Road as they have all marked for demolition
I end by telling everyone who desire to buy a property to use the services only of a Registered Surveyor to avoid stories that touch

Sorry bro. But the profit from that lacasera was what the Igbo hustler used to purchase the land where your grandfather and great grandfather were buried and built his house on top of their graves .

No disrespect, just saying don’t look down on people . It never ends well
