Neo-cold War In West Africa Is Bad News For Nigeria by Biafrannuke: 10:42pm On Apr 26
The period of the cold accounted for the largest break-up of countries ever. Speak of the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, North Korea/south Korea, East Germany/ West Germany, North Vietnam/South Vietnam, Republic of China/ China etc

While two conflicting ideologies fuelled the cold war of the 60s, expansionism is fueling the current one.

Since the end of the cold war, the west had literarily called the shots in international relations. Now, the East(Russia and China) seems to be announcing themselves in a unique fashion. China has matched the west economically, shoring up the economy of numerous developing countries through borrowings. Infact, It's economy is expected to overtake US by 2050. Also, Putin has called the collapse of the Soviet Union a grave mistake. Russia has saved Assad's regime from collapse, and is asserting itself in Ukraine in a way that shocks the west. Where China fails in defence Russia covers them and where Russia fails in economy, China shores them up. This Killer alliance is rattling the west.

In Africa, the effect is already being felt in Sudan and Libya while Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger are nearly settled in favour of Russia.

The west is losing foothold in its traditional sphere of influence. Nigeria is the only big thing the west must control fully if they must remain relevant in the region.

In my comment in the screenshot below, I said US last option if Tilumbu shows arrogance will be a change of tune on Biafra, starting with a change of language on MNK travails.

It is not shocking that within a week after US withdrew it's troops in Niger in humiliation it released a human right report criticizing Nnamdi Kanu's arrest. The report also has words which clearly undermines the legitimacy of the supreme court judgement which which refused to free Kanu.

It was also clearly acknowledged by the report that "ethnic Igbos" ( not Nigerians of south east origin) were prevented from voting by the ruling party.

It is also not shocking to hear Jewish rabbinical council now declaring without pressure from Igbos that Igbos descended from Hebrews.

The handwriting is clear on the wall and has been written shortly before now. For instance, The US has made an arms deal worth over a trillion naira with Nigeria hoping to win them over two months ago. This is rather shocking coming from a democratic government in US with their human rights brouhaha.

If Nigeria continues in the current trajectory seen by the west as pro-russian, things will get nasty and quickly. The west will never allow the Russia and China to control ECOWAS. They'll rather Separate the source of Nigeria's glory from Nigeria and partner with them to control the subregion.

What will end Nigeria is if they make the mistake of joining the BRICS..I was laughing at people who said that Nigeria should join BRICS
America is going to change their politics and policies towards Nigeria

that's why the cold war on their doorstep is bad news. Such situation does not afford the opportunity of a middle ground if it escalates. If these fools run down the economy, China can easily convince them to join BRICS and dump the IMF.

I say AMEN to what is possible if the US and Russia decide to come to Nigeria to slug it out. Nigeria is full of enemies who are forced together and it will take necessary evil like the US and Russia to liberate parts of the country like Yorubaland that can afford to pay for the mercenaries. It will be a better deal for Yoruba to give 20% of our resources to America to defend our land, complete with military base, way better than the over 90% Nigeria is getting from us with nothing to show for it. The better alternative is to divide the country or move it back to the constitutional backed regional govt that worked for us and gave autonomy to the regions. Let region be in control of how they run their regions and let the federal govt have just 3 or 4 functions.

lol. You must be joking.

A country is as powerful as it's internal cohesion. The Soviet Union was the largest country and one of the most powerful countries to have existed on earth. It broke up in a single day because of sustained internal disagreement. Czechoslovakia too.

Nigeria's foundation is quite weak. Ethnic and religious loyalty against national loyalty is strongest in Nigeria than any country in the world. Your leaders even exploit these fault lines to perpetuate themselves in power like your tilumbu is doing. The country is also weak economically. Northern Nigeria economy has collapsed completely and Nigeria despite being biggest in Africa by far in population ranks a shocking 4th economically. That's a failed state. These fault lines are being watched closely globally and has put your Nigeria in the firm grip of super powers. Your Nigeria survived the civil war because the super powers wanted it to and your Nigeria handed its own sovereign territory bakassi peninsula to Cameroon equally because superpowers wanted it to. Infact, your Nigeria exist today because it benefits the super powers not because they fear your Nigeria (I believe you said that as a joke though)

It is clear that what has saved your Nigeria for years is it's non asserting posture in international relations. For instance, During the Libyan war, South Africa played leadership role in the continent by mobilizing other African countries in Opposition of NATO-led invasion, while your Nigeria played the shameful role of supporting NATO invasion because it wanted to preserve its unity.

Again, South Africa leads the continent in this crucial time of Russian Ukraine war by making anti-west diplomatic statements, joining BRICS and even conducting joint drills with Russia. As usual, your Nigeria is scared to express itself as a result of the need to preserve its unity.

Lastly, the Israel/Gaza war has seen south African heavily criticising Israel and even took them to the ICJ. Your Nigeria is on the sidelines, hampered by its fault lines.

Your Nigeria's ethnic and religious fault lines gives it a weak footing to assert itself in international relations. Your country is like an explosive waiting to be lit.

I you ask me I'll tell you your country can no longer do that. Infact, no country remains aloof in global affairs for long and expect to move forward. Joining political and economic blogs is a national interest necessity. India and South Africa have jumped into the BRICS from non alignment and US ended isolationism. Even Sweden has been forced to pick a side to end it's historic official neutralism when the Neo-Cold war reached its doorstep.

With the bitting hardship, rising population, rising insecurity in every direction and dimensions, rising leadership failure, your Nigeria must be forced to make a choice to remain silent and collapse or to come out of its shell and join either of the party and burst. It's a matter of time but the time seems to be here already.
