An Afrobeats star has been abducted in Delta State, with the kidnappers demanding $200,000 (approximately N250 million) in ransom Eric Many Records has confirmed the abduction of one of its artists, Emuemu Goodnews, who is widely known as Gnewzy. According to a statement released by the label's project coordinator, Adedayo Showemimo, Gnewzy was taken captive after performing at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday in Delta State. "It is with deep concern and immense distress that Eric Many Records announces the regrettable incident involving our artist Gnewzy. In the early hours of Monday, 29th April, Gnewzy was abducted in Ughelli, Delta State. His manager, Obas9ice, narrowly escaped a similar fate on Eklat road in Ughelli," the statement read. The statement further revealed that Gnewzy's manager The statement further revealed that Gnewzy's manager, who was present at the time of the abduction, managed to evade capture and has been assisting the police with pertinent information regarding the incident. "Following the incident, Obas9ice has been fully cooperating with the Division A police station in Ughelli, providing a detailed account and statement of the events," the statement added. Eric Many Records is actively collaborating with law enforcement authorities to secure the safe return of Gnewzy. The label is in contact with senior police officials in Delta State, including the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police in Lagos, Idowu Owohunwa. The abductors have contacted the CEO of the record label, Dilly Umenyiora, via email, demanding a ransom of $200,000.
