Vtr. Ezekiel Idiok, a prominent socialite and media analyst, has appealed to the federal government to reconsider its plan of allocating approximately N2.8 trillion for electricity subsidies. Instead, he urges the government to prioritize subsidizing prepaid meters for Nigerians, including those in impoverished communities.

Speaking to Journalist in Uyo on Tuesday morning following remarks by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, Idiok emphasized the importance of addressing the prepaid meter issue as a more effective means of ensuring fair access to electricity.

Minister Adelabu highlighted the government's need for substantial funding to maintain electricity subsidies and prevent tariff increases for the remainder of the year during a session with the Senate Committee on Power.

Vtr. Idiok also called upon President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Senate, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio to intervene and reconsider the current policy to encourage power companies to improve their services to Nigerians.
