Noooo! Wheat like cassava is sold in the market. You can buy it and grind it yourself or take it to people who will. This will ensure that nothing has been added to your flour.

You can make fresh pasta yourself. You’ll need the wheat flour, water and a little olive oil or any kind of oil. I’m also careful about what I eat. I avoid preservatives when I can.

Just like eating garri depends on the soup you eat it with, pasta can be healthy depending on the sauce. Just use a lot of vegetables like carrots, avocados…

Flour and egg(s) are just the ingredients you need to make pasta from scratch (according to original Italian recipe)
Eggs serve as a binder.

Only when Americans (ruiners of original recipes) make pasta have I seen olive oil added.

We don't have that issue here in Nigeria.

I've seen someone looking for gluten free bread at a store .. I wonder if that Nigerian also eat GMO oyinbo man food..

I use little oil when frying anything I eat, even frying unripe plantain. I use absorbent paper towel to drain excessive oil.

I'm not a fan of ripe plantain actually. Just once in a while I eat it. I prefer unripe plantain for chips cos it's crispy. cheesy

Bland taste and also my eyes eat first and just genera dislike. I'm a picky eater and not keen in trying new cuisine.

In my travels around some countries, I always like to taste the street foods and cuisines of the different cultures and it's been a fantastic way of appreciating the skills that go into developing these foods.

You seem to have grown up knowing only the Amala made from unripe plantains in your city or State of residence based on your mum's culinary preferences.


Last but not least, I suppose you're referring to wheat swallow made from whole wheat flour in your last paragraph. Whole wheat is actually made from wheat bran and germ combo.

Amala however isn't made from whole wheat flour. Just as I stated in the last post, Amala comes ONLY in 3 major swallow varieties among Yoruba folks namely:

1. Amala ogede is made from ELUBO OGEDE (unripe plantain flour) which is a shade of brown color.
2. Amala isu is made from ELUBO ISU (yam flour) which is brown in color.
3. Amala lafun is made from ELUBO LAFUN (cassava flour) which is white in color.

You mentioned plantain. Funny enough, I am not a huge fan of fried plantain. The taste wears me out. I prefer unripe plantain actually (boiled plain or plantain pottage, fried unripe).

I like cake but eat in moderation. I don't have a sweet tooth. Except if you classify Cheeseballs and Caprisun there but it isn't that sweet though. cheesy

As for me, I choose my meals based on their nutritional values, not based on their tastes or their appearances. So, I so much like Editan and Periwinkles.

Noodles tastes great but I avoid it because it is not just starch but artificial starch. The same applies to Macaroni and Spaghetti. I rather soak Garri that is natural.

How did you eat the Abacha? Your claim is like that of someone who takes Pap without adding Sugar or anything else to the Pap and asserts that Pap is tasteless. Some bad cooks can make you hate Abacha. You may also hate Abacha if you eat the one mixed with the liquid substance called Ncha. The Ncha tastes like soapy water. I hate it in Abacha but people claim that the Ncha cleans stomach.

One thing I have discovered on this thread is that many commenters are condemning certain foods based on just one-time experience in the hands of terrible cooks. How can one say that Okpa tastes bad? I know at least 3 white men that like Okpa so much.

Another person speaks ill of Amala and Ewedu. I am not a Yoruba. But Amala and Ewedu do not taste bad. I must confess that the appearance of Amala and Ewedu is not enticing. I must also confess that the first time I ate it was in one local and unkept "mama put" and it didn't taste nice. But I later began to eat Amala and Ewedu after I tasted the one prepared by good cooks.

I like your sense of reasoning when it comes to your choice of meals and dieting.

You are EATING TO LIVE and not living to eat.

Okpa,abacha dnt come and tell me i ate a badly prepared one NO!! I stayed in Enugu and i tried different ones prepared by different cooks and in different localities hoping i would experience a different taste that would make me like Abacha.Its not just palatable to my taste bud .Another one is the bean soup ,yuck ,I would jst prefer I eat the normal beans instead

Lordy knows I can’t stand avocado.

I don’t mind bread (like agege) but unless it’s like fancy French bread I’m good.

NO. Unless you people have a toaster, or I have the energy to make French toast myself. I don’t mind bread like that but I can more than do without it. I don’t know why people find that hard to understand. I prefer toast and that’s the end of it.
