What kind of cooperative? What kind of customers? No serious person with a million naira or thereabouts would put his money outside regular banks. Even fintech is used as transit for money and not to keep overnight or for several days at a time.

I am sorry to break it to people but university is not for everybody. Our forefathers (check the biographies of the likes of Zik and Awo) worked to pay for their education themselves. It was only because of skills shortage post independence that some regions decided to make universities free to produce skilled graduates.
You can type o! I couldn't even read it through.
BTW: should we now close down all federal and state universities since they're not in the category of the universities that are being attended by the children of affluent people?

So you think someone who paid $20-50,000 a year in university fees for 3-4 years is in Nigeria working for N100k?

There are drivers, cooks, chefs etc earning over 100k even before Naira devaluation and if you offer them anything less they will insult you.

You paid 20,40 or 60k in fees and that why you think N100k is a good salary. I’ve told you there are graduates with no experience earning over a million a month starting salary.

Government universities and polytechnics are subsidised, highly subsidised. The 20, 40 or 60k you mentioned was even like decades ago. They're paying as much as 500k in most universities today.

And how many medical doctors and nurses are our private universities producing yearly again? grin grin grin

Since you didn’t read my solution my answer to you is Why should we…they are producing degrees for people happy to earn 100k. And from this thread there are a lot of graduates happy to e arm 100k.

It’s not decades ago. There was a report recently within the last 2 months where they protested increase. The previous fee was N20-30k.

Medicine is the one areas where public universities are still producing relatively good graduates.

I finished university education when school fee was increased to 20k or thereabout. That was 13 years ago! Can you guess my monthly income now?
Though, the same school is now charging an average of 400k today

The reason an employer can offer a graduate N100k is because they do not rate you and if you say no another Nigerian university graduate will accept. Even my driver earns more than N100k. The problem you people with Nigerian degrees have is that you cannot apply for the jobs where those with good degrees apply and those with good degrees don’t apply for the low level jobs you apply for.

There are graduates earning 100k, there are graduates earning 1m+. A major determining factor is the university you attended and the quality of your degree. If you think you can pay 50k Naira in university fees here in Nigeria and get the same jobs as those who paid 10,20,50k dollars in university fees, that alone is a reflection of the education you received.
You know nothing, Jon Snow.

I have seen several people in Lagos with degrees from UK and SA degrees applying for a 50k job.

I have seen this countless times.

From What Universities? I don’t think you understand that as a graduate from a Nigerian university you are automatically at the back of the queue. Especially a government university. We employers do not rate your degrees because we have seen the products from Nigerian universities. They are generally not up to the task.

Okay.

If i may ask, which firm do you employ for or work for as their talent resource manager?

Going by what you said, it is so wrong of you to be profiling graduates from Nigeria public universities as sub standard.
Talents are everywhere and as a good talent resource manager you are supposed to widen your search gap.

Most can’t. Speak to any employer. I am talking here about public universities.

Please when I say employer, I mean serious employers and serious jobs. I am not talking about marketing, admin assistants, receptionists, etc. these are jobs for people with “O” levels not graduates.

So the likes of Stanbic ibtc(multinational organization) that employ young graduates from Nigerian universities into their trainee program are unserious. Is that what you are saying?

Oga I am telling you the reality. Life is not about what is fair, life is about what happens in reality. When you advertise for a job, you get many CVS, hundreds sometimes thousands, nobody has time to look through all of them. You need to give an employer a reason to stop and even read your CV.

If it is a computer that is sifting through your CV, it is looking for key words. If it is a human, the 2 things that will make him a recruiter to read your CV are the university you attended and/ or your class of degree. If a university has a good reputation, I will stop to read the CV, if it has a bad reputation or I have encountered a graduate from that University that turned out to be a quack, the next time I see that university, I won’t even read it except I see 1st class.

This is why sometimes when you apply for the best jobs at the best companies they don’t even reply because your Cv was not even read. Say you apply for a job at one of the top law firms in the country, the law firms know which Nigerian universities have goodie the best law programs. You are also competing with people who went to Cambridge , LSE, Oxford as well as 2nd tier UK universities like Coventry, Sheffield, surrey etc. so when you send your Cv with Michael Okpara university, it will never get read. Among Nigerian universities, the guy from LASU or Unilag, UI or Covenant will be always be ahead of you. It is only the jobs where these graduates do not apply to that your Cv may get a looked at. Even then you better have a 1st class.-

This is how recruitment works in the real world even abroad. You either go to the best schools or you try and get noticed by having a 1st class. As far as talent, sometimes you are not employed for your talent but your connections.

Lady earning N360K sacked for not meeting monthly target of N300M

According to reports, a marketing expert from Nigeria making N360K a month lost her job in Lagos when she didn’t reach her N300M monthly target.

A social media user using by the handle @Aguofapapa bemoaned his friend’s predicament.

Same thing the stupid Fidelity bank did to my friend who worked for them for just 11 month and only to be sacked in the 12th month all in the name of not meeting up with his target. All benefits and promotion after a year they’ve promised him just varnished before his eyes. It’s as if his dreaming, Lolz.

Did I say so? Your response alone shows the problem with Nigerian graduates. Your English comprehension is poor.

Of course they will employ Nigerian graduates but there are graduates that are deployed to the less career progressive parts of the business and there are those that are deployed to the star roles. They are not going to send a graduate from Oxford or LSE to mundane roles. The minute the are employed they are seen as future CEOs with international connections from their universities, they are groomed as such. You on the other hand have to prove yourself.

Secondly, a firm like IBTC will get the best of the Nigerian graduates. I never said all Nigerian public university graduates are bad. What I also said is that there are certain public universities that will never make it into a company like IBTC.

Dear nairalander,

If I have a person like you in my talent resources team I will redeploy you out of that department with immediate effect because you have this condescending attitude towards Nigerian universities most especially lower-tier universities.

I have seen someone that graduated from a university in England and he knows nothing. A graduate from lasu dusted him.

You are part of those who believe that everything foreign is better than our own indigenous. There are brilliant minds in lower-tier Universities so therefore I will consider them and give them a chance, not all are dullards. They have brilliant minds.

In summary, not all graduates who finished at top-ranked Universities are brilliant while there are brilliant minds in lower-ranked Universities.

You are naive! The real world doesn’t work like that. I actually hate foreign things and colo mentality. If you read my posts, you will see me saying it many times.

I am telling you how the real world works. Even in England there are some universities you attend that the Goldman Sachs/citibanks of this world will never employ you. Why? Because they go to schools like Oxford/Cambridge/LSE/City/ to recruit interns even before they graduate. You attend university of east London you go apply tire with your 1st class, all you will get is thank you for sending your CV. They have already recruited the people they want to recruit for the star roles….investment banking trading floor etc. if they recruit you, they are recruiting g you for lesser roles like , accounts, IT and admin. The opportunity for you never exists because your school is not among the schools they go to to recruit. You then have to work your way through a lesser company and prove yourself there and earn a reputation then they may try to poach you.

Argue all you like about what should be, I am telling you what is. It doesn’t mean you won’t get a job or that good companies won’t employ you but you are at a disadvantage and some companies won’t even consider you. This is due to both real and perceived bias. There is politics and conscious and subconscious bias in everything including recruitment. Nobody ever said the world was fair. Your duty is to give yourself the best advantage and not to handicap yourself.

There are many intelligent people struggling in life because they do t get opportunities and there are many dullards supervising the intelligent. Why? Perception, connnections and access determines the quality of opportunities available to you, where and how far you get to in life than your intellect. It is the same all over the world. The quicker you get this the better for you.
