Google lays off at least 200 employees from its ‘Core’ teams

In an effort to save expenses, tech giant Google is said to have let go of at least 200 workers from its “Core” departments and to be shifting some positions to Mexico and India.



In an email sent to staff members last week, Asim Husain, vice president of Google Developer Ecosystem, disclosed the layoffs, stating that it was the largest drop his team had anticipated for the year.



In order to operate closer to our partners and developer communities, we want to preserve our current worldwide footprint while also expanding in high-growth global workforce areas, the email stated, according to the article.



Google’s Core division is in charge of creating the technological foundation for its major products and monitoring user safety on the internet. It also looks after the business’s worldwide IT. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

At least 50 of the positions eliminated were in engineering at the company’s offices in Sunnyvale, California, filings show. Many Core teams will hire corresponding roles in Mexico and India, according to internal documents viewed by CNBC.
