The Germans and the Japanese witnessed heavy bombardment by the Americans and its allies during WW2 but these countries never looked back to their past and started crying like babies. They have a good bilateral relationship with the US, even with US military based in their countries. If your leaders have the country's interest at heart, no country can exploit you. Read a book on how Chairman Mao transformed China with the help of the West.

Corruption is the main challenge why African nations are irritatingly backward in feasible achievements/developments.
Just recently list of looted funds by 58 former governors in Nigeria were circulating in online, allegedly released by efcc , with one of the governors said to have cornered the huge amounts of 1000 billion naira, that is a trillion naira, far back 1999-2007 when some yearly state budget was not even up 500 billion naira, but an individual deemed it okay to loot 1 trillion naira, from his state government because he happened to be the governor of the state.
When you peruse the list of those looting governors, with such huge amounts of funds
there's no level of development, that Nigeria wouldn't have attained, if properly utilized.
