Dear Nairalanders, I am considering getting a phone for myself to carry on my job activities. I’m contemplating between buying five years old Samsung 10E or I should just buy a brand new midrange phone (Redmi 13C or Tecno Spark20).

Which of these phones should i go for in term of performance, battery and camera? Thanks.

Buy Redmi 13c. 256g/8g variant. It's quite decent, and it's below the 170k ballpark.

if you wanna experience premium smart device,, go for the s10e. You will never regret it.I can't emphasise more on this...
In other loose, if you want a brand new phone, you can go for redmi.. detest any evil that wants to push you to buy tecno, infinix or itel.....peace!

S10 is still a good flagship that in my opinion is even better than S20, great phone, lovely amoled screen, on screen fingerprint reader and lastly an 3.5mm jack which to me is priceless.

Last update for s10 plus is android 12 which I use.
S10e may end at 11 or better still 12

I have an s10 plus I bought new in 2019. Still works perfectly, Feels premium,
Battery still great.

But I'll advise you against buying the Samsung because of the screen,
After updating to android 12 few months later I now have a green line which is a common problem

Except you'll manage that issue I'll say go for a redmi note instead, not the 13c

And I read that this green line issue is peculiar to the Samsung S20, S21, S22, and Note 20 line ups. I don't know it's now applicable to the S10 Plus.

This green line issue is the reason I'm reluctant to upgrade to a Samsung S-series (I currently use Samsung A70 and it's still serving me well though). Maybe I'll just get myself A73 because I don't want this green line problem.

I appreciate your suggestion but I’m not sure i can that Redmi note is within affordability. Could you give the cost of the Redmi note? Thanks.

The green line is mostly devices that use amoled.

So long as the device doesn't use amoled you'll be fine.

That is one of the downsides of using a Galaxy, but you can always use a custom ROM.

The hardware can still support any recent ROM.

Sure, I know.
My device has a Super AMOLED display.

Samsung A-series phones with Super AMOLED display are not affected.

As per the several reports I've come across, the green line issue comes up after upgrading to Android 12 or 13 for the devices I mentioned in my first response.

Redmi 13c is not a midrange phone. It can't match up with S10E. Forget spark 20 too if you're looking for a midranger

If you're looking for a good mid range Phone, Pova 6 NEO, Spark 20 pro should be in your list. Don't allow these online haters to confuse you. Look out for plenty reviews too

I currently use an s10e and an itel s18..... The only thing you'll miss out on is the battery..... It's not bad but it's just a day battery life.... On wifi 5-6hrs sot of combined use, 7-8hrs sot of light use watching movies and little browsing,

It also depends on the condition of the phone tho.... But for me .... I would go for the s10e and a power bank to back it up

That money won't get a proper midranger but there is one midranger and two others that are close to midrange. They would perform very well.

Vivo y56 - midrange
Itel S24 - close to midrange
Redmi 13c - budget also close

For fast internet- vivo y56

Display- vivo y56

Performance & Speed- vivo y56 followed by itel S24

Battery life- vivo y56. The other two have solid batteries as well

Camera- itel S24 wins this closely followed by vivo y56. Redmi 13c also has a good camera

Software updates- Redmi is king here

You can get the itel S24 for less than 150k. Same goes for Redmi 13c. Vivo y56 was 150k the last time I checked. I hope the price hasn't been increased again cos these our people can be so callous. They have the phone in stock for a long time but they'll still change the price and say it's dollars. If you can't get the vivo y56, go for the itel S24

Itel has actually improved. The S24 is a nice phone. I tested it at computer village on Saturday. If you need to see a review of the itel S24, search for Eugoson Quorch on YouTube. He has done the review especially with the camera. However, if you are not convinced, you can go for the other option
