Any Nigeria that is sane won’t be bitter about the coastal road.

Except if you want to argue that government should stop ALL road intervention, close down Work & Housing ministry, and then allocate all the budgetary fund to ministry of agriculture because there is hunger.

But if your argument is singling out coastal road alone, then it’s baseless and not coming from patriotism side. Why is Otti wasting money on the Aba-porthacort road when he can use that money to feed Abians and eradicate hunger? Which is more important? Road or quenching hunger?

A sane person will choose fixing existing roads scattered all over Nigeria to a senseless new road that will cost us a fortune...do you guys even have working brains at all?

COASTAL HIGHWAY SHOULD BE BANNED.

INCASE OF FOREIGN INVASION, IT ALLOWS EASY ACCESS FROM WEST TO EAST

INSTEAD OF HIGHWAY, GIVE US ELECTRICITY.

So what do you want the government to do in the immediate that will suddenly make price of bag of rice fall to 500 naira? Do you guys even know the model of the coastal road? Do you think government will just be pouring trillion at once or what?

If government have the means to make bag of rice 20k in 3 month, coastal road construction won’t be the impediment that will have to achieve that.

Even you yourself you don’t know why you’re antagonizing the road because apart from all this dilly dallying of poverty, you haven’t brought any vital argument.

All through Buhari 8 years, he never constructed coastal road. So why has he not used the money that would have been invested in coastal road to make rice 10k per bag to alleviate hunger?

Is that how you think it is?

Then enlightenment us, to the best of my knowledge, the rate of unemployment is alarming, so it's there no way the government can construct companies or industries to absorb the staggering amount of graduates that our institution produce annually? How about empowering them in soft skills or even making the country safe for farmers to farm with ease? And then qgain investing in Agriculture too.

This isn't what we fight or quarrel about, it's the harsh reality of things, and you don't expect people to keep mute like robots.

And besides this is a massive project that will take years.. it's not even an immediate project that will yield results to placate the suffering, so what will the masses be doing while it's on?

Looks fine though, but here in NIGERIA we need to tackle poverty , insecurities and hunger.

This is clearly a misplaced priority.
How will job and prosperity be created if this kind of projects are not done. In one stroke, Lagos to Tinapa is opened up with over 500km of beach lines.
I don't get how our people reason

What the business of Government in establishing businesses? The role of government is to provide enabling environment, do projects that private individuals can't or won't do like this Coaster Road. This will generate not less than 200,000 in tourism.

Enough of this coastal high nonsense. How much have we make from crude oil in the Niger Delta, bitumen in Ondo, gold deposit in Zamfara, iron ore in Kogi, gas in Anambra etc.
Nigerian youths are the most gullible in the world. We saw how these bastards in power are deceiving and destroying the future of generations to come. Who lead us is least of our problems. We cowardly shy away from fights that will better our lives collectively. No thanks to Sheun Osewa and his modes who profits from tribal and ethic insults on the platform.
I read on this platform yesterday how some 21st century illiterates were insulting Rufai Oseni because of the eight critical questions he asked about the misplaced priority coastal project.
Rufai's No. 8 question is 'The Road was originally meant to be developed on a Build, Operate and Transfer (“BOT”) basis: why has government reversing course and now self-funding it?'
Rufai really make the question straight forward for any sensible being; the contractor will build the road, operate it for some time before transferring it to us.
The youth need to wake up.

The positive impact of the Lagos Calabar coastal road on the Nigerian economy will be huge and generational.
I have tried to explain to some why this is a brainer but they seem bent on looking at it from a political and sentimental perspective.
Even if Obi was President and he proposed this road, I would have supported it with everything I have.

Nigeria has a long coastline and most are not been used to their full potential. Imagine how many beaches will open up from Lagos to Calabar, imagine world-class hotels, imagine the potential for resorts in many areas.

Look at it from the potential benefits instead of the potential delays and costs.

Projects of this magnitude will experience delays, cost overruns, and many other problems. But we must still start it and plan for potential hiccups as we go along. No matter how ell you plan there will be issues but that is not enough reason to back away form it.

Tinubu deploying his propaganda machinery to deceive Nigerians about a project that is not needed at this point in time but is simply a conduit pipe to siphon government funds to him and his cronies

Look, the way they went about this project will turn out to be what threatened the project itself. The lack of transparency, due process and appropriation will undo the project. His best bet is to finish the project in four years. 2027 comes with no guarantees. Not coming clean and correct in Lagos may work. But you see that federal level? E go hard. Bro I listened to Rufai and I was ashamed of him with his ridiculous questions. If that road built on BOT and is tolled like the Lekki Toll gate, who will pay? Nigerians and I can tell for free, it will be more expensive. This Coaster Road will bring in Tourism, more access to sea for jetties, enables fisheries, Tourism and other Blue Economy benefits.

So all the years that we’ve not built coastal highway, did the government used the money to cure poverty?

Why is there poverty in Nigeria in 1960? Did they used the money to build coastal road too?

That coastal road will come to pass. It won’t stop government from spending on other roads and etc if they want to.

Rather than just embezzle the money for his cronies, Tinubu is opening new frontiers but you guys keep wailing daily. Maybe he should have just steal the money and hand it to his friends, like that no one will even know anything is missing until he is gone.

Imagine government creating new roads and you guys are crying. Would you rather they embezzle it all so you can be happy?

Embezzle which money? Government is borrowing money to fund budget and you're talking about embezzlement. If this project was being done in 2010, there would be no much complaint as Nigeria was financially buoyant then.

The problem with the project is that if that fund is channelled to it, it would be essentially impossible for the government to address other pressing economic needs. For example, why should Lagos to Abuja not have a well maintained highway? What good will it be to the economy of Nigeria is there is a lovely coastal road while most of the other roads could not be done as there was not enough money left to fix them?

Listen, nobody is saying that the project is bad. It is just that the timing is not right. Nigeria's economy is currently in a mess and you know it. People are struggling to feed. Attention should be focused on priority projects and this coastal road isn't a priority. Imagine you're about to be ejected from your house due to non-payment of rent and you manage to find someone who will lend you the amount that can cover for your rent but instead of sorting your rent, you decide get a new car because your current car is rickety and isn't befitting of your status. Isn't that a senseless act?

Good you mention unemployment. Do you know infrastructure is one of the ways to create employment?

Think about it. We are constructing the road with cement which is sourced locally. That’s employment on its own as the cement companies will make use of raw materials sourced locally and you’ve given money back to those guys. Also, constitution companies will have to recruit thousands of workers directly or indirectly. Those corridors, people selling goods will sprang up up to those selling ordinary pure water and economic activities will boom in that corridor. Then when the road reach some level, real estate will start booming up and people will open new businesses across that corridor. Thats massive employment on its own.

I am not abusing you for throwing blame as I also understand Nigeria currently is hard and people are going through a lot.

But even while crying, you should be able to see. The coastal road is not the reason for hunger. The lack of it won’t suddenly make you rich in 3 month.

Most of you guys are just fighting the fight of the elite. All this noise about coastal road only started due to Landmark. Same landmark where common man can’t even go there to enjoy the sight of the beach without paying massively to even sit down.

99% of people arguing against this coastal road don’t even know why. It’s just bandwagon.

Your argument still does not make any sense:

Since 1960, all Nigeria roads have never been 100% okay. No matter how much government pump into it.

Jonathan never built a coastal road, man can’t even finish ordinary Lagos Ibadan expressway reconstruction but yet he couldn’t complete all road in Nigeria and make them fine like Dubai.

i repeat again, you won’t have 100% completed road in Nigeria. Our population is expanding by the day, we need newer roads and we need to open new frontier.

Lekki trade zone at some point was economically senseless to people when Tinubu created the idea. Lagos should have spent that money on some other thing as people will argue then. But now see what that zone is? Isn’t it one of the best investment Lagos has ever supervised for both Nigeria and Lagos itself?

Their mainland bridge when we constructed it, Nigeria was broke too. People complained too because they have no vision. But now it’s the most important bridge in Lagos.

You can complain that the road should not be built, but your complaint won’t stop the FG from building it, so why giving yourself headache?

We don’t even need to Japa too much if we have all this critical infrastructure in place.

It’s a myopic reasoning for Nigeria at this stage to be scared of opening new frontiers. Politicians come and go, they can choose to embezzle the money and not do anything and won’t still invest that money in the agriculture. If Yahaya Bello built certain KM of road with the almost $1m he spent on his kids schoolfees, would it not be better than embezzling it?

How much have we wasted in CBN agricultural intervention in the last dispensation? Did same fake farmers not embezzle the money? How much palliative intervention have government done? Has it made rice 20k? No law states that multiple project can’t happen simultaneously.

The only potent argument I will accept from anyone is if they say we should totally declare state of emergency on food and channel money from other ministry to agriculture alone and stop ALL road construction.

Even that itself is counterproductive. But I will accept it. Just don’t see the sense in people fixated on this particular coastal highway. People arguing against it are doing it more on the side of political opposition rather than patriotism.
