Both are good only depends on the contractor and how much he is left with to do the job. |

StOla: How? Oga can you stop being stupid and daft, read well Obi did the road and for more than 10 years after he left the road is still standing. Ngige did a road too before he left and the road is still standing too. Both made their mark but Obi was better because he lasted more on the seat. Stop behaving like a dense person. 2 Likes |

StOla: Oga stop being a stupid troll. That bridge was not built by PO. show us the time of commissioning and show us who commissioned the bridge. PO fixed the road and the bridge is the issue and not the road. You are even derailing the post by trolling Obi on the bridge, stop being stupid abeg. 1 Like |

All over the world, Asphalt is mostly used because it's more beautiful, cheaper and easier to repair. Concrete is mostly used in rural areas. 1 Like |

There is no comparing between the two. It's all boil down to the soil formation. If you have solid soil concrete is needless. Asphalt can heal itself after heavy fire but concrete cannot. Asphalt can last 50 years if done rightly. The major problem for asphalt is bad soil or erosion. The erosion washes the soil then the asphalt cannot hold the weight together. I still prefer asphalt because the day I drive on concrete in ebony the car was make too much noise especially at the joints on every pavement on the concrete. And when you hit bomp there is too much shocks that hit the wheels and suspension unlike asphalt. 2 Likes |

It's senseless for govt to start utilizing cement to build road when there is abundance of naturally occurring sphalt. The use of cement for road construction has forced the price of cement to skyrocket. Do you know the amount of cement you need to build say 20km road?? The quantity can build an estate. Since the day dangote was allowed to build the oshodi-apapa express way with cement, check it, that was when the price of cement started skyrocketing... They should go learn how Julius berger build their roads instead of putting pressure on cement. 1 Like 1 Share |

Comceete is ridiculously expensive due to high cost of reinforcement and cement, additives such as superplasticizers etc. Also concrete roads take slightly longer in that they have to be left to cure after placement. Asphalt on the other hand is cheaper and from an aesthetic standpoint wipes the floor with concrete. With roads, two things contribute to its failure more than anything else: traffic and sub base. A properly prepared sub base will last nearly eternity and also traffic. When designing a road you must take into account the amount of traffic that will ply the road. If u design a road for example that can only handle say 1000 small vehicles and and you have upon completion 10000 vehicles maybe even trucks sef plying the road, then it will certainly fail |

a major trend I gave noticed is that it seems as if the use of cement for road constrution is one of the reasons for the high cost of cement. I maybe wrong and stand to be corrected, but it seems cement manufacturers now prioritise cement for road constrution given that major road contractors are able to purchase higher volumes at relatively higher than the lowest possible cost price and guarantee bulk sales as consignments are booked months in advance. |

StOla: It's corruption that makes Nigerians even begin to consider cement concrete roads. BTW, both flexible and rigid pavements are concrete pavements. Asphalt concrete and cement concrete. Asphalt roads can last over 50 years if they're well constructed and undergo timely repair. The normal thing is, build well and have teams routinely inspect and maintain roads. Maintenance teams can fill cracks before they even become potholes, but how will governors "chop" if the roads don't get damaged? 1 Like |

We have almost unlimited amounts of bitumen deposits which we haven't tapped, why stress the availability of cement for other critical sectors. Asphalt over cement 1 Like |
