Amaewhule Group Alleges Fubara's Plan To Demolish Rivers Assembly Quarters by obasanjonews(m): 6:41am On May 10
The group led by Martin Amaewhule in the Rivers State House of Assembly has expressed concern about an alleged plan by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to demolish the Assembly Quarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital. During a press conference following the governor's visit to the quarters on Thursday, Amaewhule, the Speaker of the group, accused Fubara of violating a court order.

Amaewhule, visibly upset, led journalists around the premises and stated that the building is structurally sound and does not require any renovations.

He emphasized that the governor's presence was not requested by any member of the group and therefore unnecessary.

Justina Emeji, another member of the House, urged the international community and other concerned individuals to intervene and urge the governor to reconsider his actions.

The Amaewhule-led Assembly also refuted claims made by some lawmakers loyal to Fubara that a new Speaker was elected on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by Emeka Amadi, the clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly, it was clarified that there have been no changes in the leadership structure of the House, with Martin Amaewhule, Dumle Maol, and Major Jack retaining their positions as Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Majority Leader respectively.

The statement also confirmed that, aside from the seat of Khana II constituency being declared vacant, no other seats have been declared vacant.

Additionally, it was emphasized that the suspensions of Victor Oko Jumbo, Sokari Goodboy, and Adolphus Timothy, which were imposed in October last year, have not been lifted at this time.
