ANGEL'S POV

I bent down mobbing my step sister Lucy's room when she threw some dirty stained pants at me.

“Wash my panties make you iron am” Lucy my step sister said to me throwing her dîrty undies at my face.

"Ah ah na, you do not have to throw them at me; you could have just told me with your mouth," I mumbled, removing the dîrty pants from my face that was stained with her menstrual blood.

She gave me a dîrty slap on my face making stars leave my face due to the slaps.

"You dey kolo" (abusive words), she roared.

“How dare you question my orders?" I see say you Don the grow wings but before the wings go Carry you fly I go break am down for you stūpid girl” She said and walked out of the room, leaving me standing there sniffing my nose and trying to hold back the tears that had welled up in my eyes.

This is how I have been treated by my step mom my dad and my step sister. Even though I am a year older than Lucy, my stepmother will always force me to do whatever she says.

Just then, the door swung open, reveling. Mother Oma my step mom with a leather belt in her hands obviously Lucy has gone to lie against me. Lucy walks in with a sad expression, just as predicted.

“You this witch, do you have the guts to slap my daughter, abi?” she asked.

“No, ma, it was Lucy who slāpped me; I did not slap her back....

Before I can conclude my statement.

She used the iron side of the belt to wipe my head. She started using it to fl0g me all over my body as I screamed and cried from the pain.

Lucy urged her mother to flōg me even more.

It was evening time, and I had finished doing the laundry and preparing dinner which my step mother deprived me of eating. I laid on the torn mat I placed in the corner of the barn while the goat all rested at the other corner I guess the goat are used to my presence cos each time I laid my torn mat, the goat will move away to another corner. I was crying silently

When my step mother came to the goat room where I use to sleep since I was deprived from sleeping in the main building, saying I am ugly as the goat and also stinks as goats so I belong with the goat.

I step out of the cramped room as she waits for me outside for me covering her nose from the smell of the barn.

“I am here, ma,” I said, as she smiled sheepishly at me removing her hands from her nose.

“Angel, you know you are a fine girl?” She grained, but I remained mute, not finding her character amusing.

“Come, prepare to go to your husband's house; your bride price has been paid for your father.” She said, rubbing my back.

I was frozen, unable to believe what she meant by "my bride price has been paid?"

“But I do not remember getting married, and I am not going anywhere,”I said.

“You must Angel, your sister Lucy, and your brother Paul need to go to university, so we must use the money to send them there.”

Tears flowed from my eyes. Knowing that I have no one to run to. My father is not a good man; he also joins my stepmother in mistreating me.

“Do not stand there” “The Lucas are coming to take you away tomorrow night," she explained.

Immediately, I heard the Lucas I went completely blank. Let it not be the same Lucas I've been hearing ne.gative things about since I came to this city. Or am doom
I sobbed.
