PROPERTY OWNERS IN ABIA TO PAY ILLEGAL RECERTIFICATION FEE OF N50K PER TITLE DOCUMENT: Lawyers weigh in!!!!

*Fifty thousand naira for each title document under this harsh economy??...that is outrageously insensitive on the part of Abia state government that promised to prioritize welfare of Abians.

*Just imagine for a moment that WAEC, the West African Examination Council calls every holder of their certificate to immediately apply for recertification of all the certificates in their possession for N50,000.00 (Fifty thousand naira).

*So for no benefit to the certificate holders they will pay N50k for WAEC certificate, N50k for GCE, N50k for NECO......did you get the drift now??

*Still under imagination; your kids whose WAEC certificates are not yet ready are asked to pay N50k to RECERTIFY their STATEMENT OF RESULT and N50K for NECO. When their certificates eventually come out, they will be forced to pay extra N50K to RECERTIFY the CERTIFICATE 😆 🤣 😂 😹. Ndi oshi right?

*Still under the crazy imagination; JAMB forces everybody to pay N50k for RECERTIFICATION of JAMB Admission letter or Nigerian Universities will ask every holder of their CERTIFICATE to pay N50k to RECERTIFY the CERTIFICATES issued to them and those with statement of result must pay N50k for it.

*The above are the exact scenarios that aptly captured what Abia State government is asking Abians to do by RECERTIFICATION of all title documents.

*RECERTIFICATION: "to certify (someone or something) again, for a second time, or differently."; sounds crazy right?. To RECERTIFY an authentic CERTIFICATE issued to you by a government agency on the flimsy reason that they are upgrading its security or digitalisation.

*Did you know that those WAEC certificates that were obtained long before the advent of computers, ICT and digital storage have all been upgraded and stored in WAEC digital files at no extra cost or inconvenience to the holder?

*Why will Abians pay N50k to RECERTIFY title documents issued to them by Abia State government? Why burden poor Abians? Why now that the economy is bitting hardest.?? Thought the New Abia government said that people's welfare is their topmost PRIORITY?

*Did you know that those who obtained their WAEC CERTIFICATES in 1960, way before ICT was discovered can comfortably use their mobile phones and WAEC scratch card to check their results? The certificate holders weren't forced to bear the burden of WAEC's system digital upgrade but can pay to enjoy the services.

This otti's government from July 2023 to March 2024, just under 8 months has received a staggering N160.71Billion from FAAC and JAAC allocations. That sum is what previous administration received in 4 years.

*Otti's government has not increased workers salary, has not paid a kobo as wage award but is in total receipt of N160.71Billion so far, with such excess enhanced FAAC allocation, why do they feel the need to tax Abians N50k for every title document?

*The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) must not allow Abia State government to go on with this RECERTIFICATION tax which many legal practitioners have called "illegal tax".

This is one side version of the story, I can't believe this till we hear from the version of Abia State goverment through the state commissioner for information or commissioner for economic planning.
