but tax should be on the increase
Fuel
Transportation
Food etc should be on the increase while minimum wage still the same.

Since this current useless government took over on May 29, 2023 prices of everything has gone up about 300% or more.

Room and parlour self contained that use to cost about 150k in Lagos now cost about 500k to rent. A tin of peak milk that use to cost about N300 is now about N900. Besides, govt is quick to introduce new taxes and increasing other tariffs. In the same vein the govt should be ready to increase minimum wage.

Where do the Labour union expect the government to get the funds? To borrow or to increase more tax base which Nigerians are fuming at both?

What should happen to private sector workers, how would they be able to cope in the same economy where the government workers would be earning X300% of their basic salary?

What would happen to Nigeria economy with government paying N500k as salary? Inflation of course.

Labour union are only after salary increase but not after fishing out the ghost workers and those with shady certificates who consume chunk of the salaries paid by government
what happened to the money they are saving from subsidy? Where did they get the money (90b) to subsidize hajj? What of the billion used to renovate VP's house? Where are they getting the money they are stealing? What about the massive salaries of politicians? Your question non make sense

Good points... So, let me ask...

Where does the same country get the kind of money to do the following:

1. Subsidise Religious pilgrimage to the tune of over 80 Billion Naira

2. Purchase cars worth 120 Million each for Lawmakers

3. Travel every quarter for medical tourism

4. Embezzle Billions from the state and national reserves every month

5. Spend Billions renovating a mere VP's quarters.

If the nation lacks the funds to make citizens live well, then it should also lack the funds to make the President and all officials live ostentatious lives.

While I agree that the demands of NLC are ridiculous, even idiotic, we need to tell the leaders the truth!

Leadership should and must be by example.

If the nation is truly broke, then the financial straits should be seen from President to citizens.

The government should increase minimum wage but labour should be realistic. 500k minimum wage is unrealistic and not attainable. If a cleaner is earning 500k monthly, how much will a director now earn? It is not achievable at all. Labour should fix minimum wage at 100k. That is realistic.

Labour is less than 1 percent of the national work force.

How can a typist grade 1 be asking for a Directors salary? What do they do?

Whatever it is worth is of no consequence. Stop being extremely stupid. If you feel you are worth 500k monthly, go and do business.

Everybody knows about the strike and what it was about. Even the link you shared didn't mention minimum wage but you had to use to cover your lies because you know that many won't open the link. Doctors in the government payroll needed salary increase, Obi agreed to pay 60 of what they asked for, they refused and went on a 13 month. Tell me, how does that amount to Obi not being able to pay minimum wage?

Labour want a share of the national cake that politicians are enjoying. This is what you get when you increase the size of bureaucracy just to score cheap political point. 100k maybe realistic or They can just do the Buhari style print more money accept the 600k and watch the Naira completely loose it value. Minimum wage is a function of productivity/output. There are no shortcuts the cuts has to start from the presidency down to the local government. If I was the president I would ensure automation is employed in bureacray only keep at most 40% percent of the current workforce, reach agreement with several big international agro firm train some of the civil servant disengage them while moving them to work for those agro-companies, the fg could still retain control of federal hospitals and universities. Significantly reduce defense spending we don't have strong external threat. Ensure governors only have immunity from civil case. Immunity from criminal case and abuse of office should be removed then you create state and local government police sonebof the personnel of the federal police and millitary would be moved to this newly created police. Use the money save from defense spending to provide tools and training that police could use to prevent crimes (data driven policing) . The idea is reducing the size of the bureaucracy, cut wasteful spending and having a balanced bydget. Decongest the prison only serious crimes like murder and rape etc should be sent to prison other crimes the person should be made to pay fines corresponding to thier income or networth states and local government should run thier prisons.

The FG should focus on presenting a better offer to organised labour instead of resorting to use paid propagandists like you to manipulate unsuspecting citizens and making labour look bad!
For the very fact that labour brought down their initial demand from #615k to #500k and to 497k implies that the humongous demand is to ensure they do not lose out of a suspected final demand which is obviously in the region of 150-200k!

This negotiation tact is to ensure that the past doesn't affect them knowing the antecedence of successive FG!

So OP forget this propaganda campaign....the three parties have gone beyond this stage!

I would also like to state clearly that any minimum wage that cannot comfortably purchase 2 full bags of rice is insensitive, wicked and unacceptable!

Is there no inflation now. They put it at 500k because they want FG to negotiate.

The FG should be creative with their revenue generation.

It depends on what you mean by "unrealistic" but they have given you a total breakdown of how they arrived at the figure. The problems of Nigeria is basically bin the mindset of the citizens and not the undoings of the rulers. Do you know that the monies that senators earned are derived from a holistic breakdown of all their basic needs? Which accumulates to over 25million every month. Talkless of governor s, chairmen, perm sec, etc. Why then is it unrealistic for the average Nigerian workers to go home with a tangible income. I believe you're not a Nigerian or perhaps you're not yet independent. Else you won't say such. It's either they return the economy to a stage where 48k can cover the payments for rent, medication, transportation, feeding etc. Else they should increase the wage. After all they said once subsidy it completely removed, there will be enough funds to sort things out... Most of them spend a very 2milion monthly just to fuel their cars,🙄

In as much as the Labour Unions are not fighting for equity and justice and they also not having clean hands, they can never have their way. #500,000 in this present Nigeria?
When they are the ones sabotaging the productivity of the workforce. They are more corrupt than the politicians only that people don't know. Why are they not clamouring for the teeming unemployed youths to be employed? Why are they not laying emphasis on the workforce to be productive?
Although the governments are not offering better amount but 500K is not realistic.

Who even allowed this topic to hit front page? 98% of Nairalanders are not elites and I know you're not too. And that goes that show that you don't read, if not you would have heard about class consciousness. What is it to you to a poor man to oppose something that benefits you? Are you that broken? Let the political elites make the case, why asisst them?

If Nigeria has to restructure its budget to provide for the citizens, then so be it. If it means the senators, governors and business elites will have to reduce their salaries and benefits to ensure minimum wage is at a level that allows people to live lives of dignity, so be it! Close that wealth gap and quit using Nigerians as slaves. Even white people come here, exploit us and pay Nigerians 40k.

No such thing as inflation when the same amount of money is in circulation, it's propaganda. Open your eyes.

If you engaged you thinking cap you will realize that minimum wage increases will lead to job loses. It is one thing for government to pay the minimum wage, private sector will just lay off workers if the minimum wage is beyond their means.

I said in a previous post, there are many people who have a job only because the minimum wage is so low. There is a level of wage increase where your employer starts asking if I really need this guy. Trust me many people will lose their jobs if the minimum wage goes above N100k.
