See this one.

Mao's Great Leap Forward started with not one single steel plant.

But look at where China is today.

I know you guys will prefer the import racket and the only reason you are groaning over the naira devaluation is that it is killing your import business.

Nigeria will reclaim her industrial status and you can all cry from now to eternity

Mao finished china... China didn't start to make progress till he died they they reformed

So why is it that no west African country convert anything to finished goods but always exporting to Europe and importing the finished goods.
From uranium to cocoa to oil to iron ore to blood diamonds and many others
Because Africans see import as an enemy
They tax raw materia import robbing then of any comparative advantage they might have heard

So we should be wasting scarce Forex importing steel instead of getting Ajaokuta to work.

Besides, your obi subscribes to Maoism down to even replicating the drab ugly communist suit.

The steel rolling part of the plant has always been functional.

What is abandoned is the Blast Furnace complex that converts ore to iron. The blast furnace was never turned on even for one minute.

They import the steel they roll.
The bolded is really shocking, depressing and sadden

Good.

Now we know why you are crying.

We will restore our industrial base and realign our economy from one of consumption to production .

You idiots can't just stop contradicting and exposing yourselves as air heads.

How can there be a rolling mill for steel and you say the blast furnace was never turned on?

How do you process the ore to make steel and other iron works ?

You have been doing that since 1950s

The only advantage Africa has is cheap labor, cheap power and proximity to Europe and America

Allow import of raw materials, use your labor to turn them to finished goods export and grow rich na

Whites force u to focus on resource extraction and production of raw materials... So you hike tarrifs for raw materials... Making you not able. To compete with whites

Dollar will enter 5000 naira so we can kill off import dependency.

Start farming.

It would be less expensive to import from China than getting from ajakuta

Ajaokuta only can serve Nigeria as a whole.

But bad wagon in and outside the state will not slow that.

Imagine traditional rulers write to FG last time that they didn’t support NATASHA in the Ajaokuta work she is doing. That she is working on her own, she should be told to stop. This happened under the turtle of APC GYB Mal-administration
Lol... What is Natasha doing about Ajaokuta before the traditional rulers write to the FG?

No single nation ever got industrialised without producing steel.

You are obviously either too stupid to not understand that keeping the steel mills rolling will be more beneficial to Nigeria than importing steel from China.

The ore is in Ajaokuta.

It will be powered by cheap gas from the Niger Delta.

Do you know how much it will cost transporting steel from China to Nigeria ?

Have you factored the job losses and oppurtunities to create more jobs locally ?

Your Messiah was an importer so I guess you follow the same theory of dumping goods in Nigeria

When you get your Biafra you can import even bottled and pure water sef.

The politics in Nigeria is dirtier than pigsty. Ajaokuta that has never rolled out steel getting all the attention while DSC that has produced for years has been left to rot. Govt keep selling DSC to highest bidders. They left DSC in ruins. Imagine paying ajaokuta pension that has not produced steel once while allowing DSC pensioners who have worked for years to die of hunger. Our leaders are cursed.

So this means the contractor that built the plant never completed their job?

It's a complicated story. But the summary of it is that the contractors could not complete it because of issues relating to supply. It was completed to as close as 96%.

The kind of blast furnace they built would not work well and possibly get damaged if there's no constant supply of plenty ore. Eventually when the Russian contractors saw that the ore was not going to be ready, they had to suspend the project pending completion of the railways and the ore was ready. Not just that, there would have to be no break within the system for the furnace to safely turn on.

Probably the contract ran out and they stopped maintaining the existing system, packed up and left. The cost of maintaining the facility will be high and for a facility not producing anything yet, it was left without proper maintenance.

Eventually the plant started to fall apart and the Russian company had already folded up. Ore was not yet enough and the railway was incomplete. In fact, till today, a railway bridge over the River Niger is still lying there, abandoned.

Personally I feel the Government of then were too ambitious with the project and could have built a much smaller project where the ore could easily be sent by road and production level would already match what is needed. The scale of the project was just too big to be successful in an epileptic country like Nigeria.

It’s has always been working but they don’t melt steel there. The LSM doesn’t have melting capabilities.

They just import billets and roll them down to rods and sections.

Splashme:
Nothing new ... that part of the mill has always been running.

They buy 'iron-condemn' from aboki, melt it and turn it to rods.

Many Chinese steel companies in Lagos and across Nigeria are doing the same.

The furnace can never be turned on as long as the coal sector is not functional.
