Hello siena, here I am Jetta,2005,2.5 engine, auto transmission. Problem is it jerks when changing from gear 3 to 4 after running for some tym/distance. When engine is cool it doesn't jerk.then also,at times it selects all gear at the same tym,the rev/min readings go up but the car doesn't pick up speed until it jerks again and then it picks up speed again.plsss what could be the culprit? |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by blackstone2929: 6:20pm On Apr 12, 2013 |
Siena: Blackstone, what fault codes were pulled when you had an OBD II scan?No codes on the scan. On the other hand, my local mechanic did a scan as well and find no codes. He proceed to do a thorough check. Went on to the turbo unit which i have just changed and found a leak in the turbo hose. He also suspected the temperature sensor ( cold enrichment sensor ) was faulty. Anyway, he asked to return tomorrow if it happens again. Will start the car again tmr. |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by Nobody: 10:49pm On Apr 12, 2013 |
Coco diva: Hello siena, here I am Without the results of an OBD scan, what I'm going to state here will be based upon the symptoms you've described. Fuel requirements are different when the engine's cold, warm or hot. Sounds like your engine is over fuelling at low to mid throttle. I suspect the coolant temperature sensor (CTS). Unlikely you have a transmission issue, automatic transmission shifts are dictated by engine rpm (speed) and load. If the engine is running rough, shifts will be erratic, on some cars, the transmission will remain in one gear without upshifting. Is there any visible black smoke from your exhaust, that coincides with the jerking? You state "it selects all gears at the same time." Are you referring to the gear position display - for example PRNDS, PRND4321 etc? Usually the gear selected will be highlighted. Are all the characters illuminated, either solid or flashing? Again, a rough running motor will not promote correct gear selection. I would advice you get the engine management scanned for codes. With the way it's running, there's no way codes won't be stored. Random / multiple misfire detected. Misfire detected cyl 1,3,4 etc. Please don't allow your mechanic to erase any codes pulled, and post them here. Please post the codes together with their definitions, and I'll do my best to get resolution. Is your dash displaying a CEL (check engine light)? |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by Cocodiva: 7:25am On Apr 13, 2013 |
Hello Siena, thanx for the quick response.I've had a scan done on it earlier but I don't have the results.but I remember some misfires been reported.I'l have another done ASAP so I could put the results up for you to see. There is no visible black smoke. Yes I meant illumination of the PRND on the dashboard. Most times it selects the particular function and highlights it and the gear numbers will be shown correctly but at times, all the PRND will be illuminated and no gear number will be shown when driving. The illumination is usually solid and yes the check engine light is on,solid and does not go away. I must add that few days ago,a mechanic worked on it ,claimed he could fix it.At the end of it,he couldn't and a day or two later, the gear got stuck on a particular number which is not shown and the illumination of the PRND has been permanent since and the gear doesn't shift PlSsss help. |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by Nobody: 9:42am On Apr 13, 2013 |
Just as I thought. You'll definitely have to have a scan carried out again. You'll need a garage that has a decent scanner, not just a generic one, which will only scan the engine management, and not the transmission or any other control module. Then post the results here. I would not take your New VW Jetta to a roadie, or small garage. You need to take her to a Volkswagen specialist, otherwise before long, your car will be destroyed. |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by Cocodiva: 3:17pm On Apr 13, 2013 |
@Siena, I don't want the car to be destroyed so I'v learnt my lesson.I sent the car for a scan and it came back with this; D fault found Solenoid value 6 ( N93) Open or short 2 Ground milon I think this is the major finding from the scan. So what next? Thanx |

Please where can I find the engine no. of my 2004 VW passat. My roadie had me register the car with a number he copied from the engine block, before I knew to keep my distance from him. Then another chap who worked on my gear problems swore that it is the number on a sticker conspicuously near the engine fans. Pls help. Don't want an encounter with the police on this account. |

1) Make. volkswagen 02) Model. Passat 03) Engine size. 1.8 04) Transmission type. Automatic 05) Model year. 1999/2000 06) Spec (US). 07) Drive configuration front wheel. I have this issue I posted here last year. I have this issue of engine starting and going off when the car is started in the morning, it will do this until the engine is warm then it work fine through out that day. I ran a scan and have this error code,P1426-tank vent valve open,P0102-mass or volume air flow meter circuit low. I recently replace the MAF, the car work for two days then it developed series of issues. 1.It started to jerk when idling but will be ok when in motion. 2. Engine going off even if in motion at say about 2min interval but will start immediately when restart 3. It started to consume fuel most especially in traffic. I spend twice as much before I park it. 4. Lost of engine power. 5. I park it for 1 week but is not even starting again. I thouhgt it must have been the MAF that I replaced that was responsible but ran a scan and obtain the following codes: 1. The two error codes stated above 2. P1239 - Cyl-3-fuel inj.circ. open circuit 3. P117 - O2 sensor heater circ. bank 1 sensor 2 short to ground 4. P1289 - Turbocharge bypass valve short to ground. 5. P1472 - Evap Emission control LDP circuit short to ground 6. P1435 - Secondary Air injector system pump relay circuit short to ground 7. P0134 - O2 sensor circuit no activity detected Bank 1 sensor 1 11. P0140 - O2 sensor circuit no activity detected Bank 1 sensor 2 Please Siena, I need your advice on these issues. I sent you bb message that I will post the issue here. Thanks inadvance |

I just noticed this thread. I have this 2002 Audi A4 1.8TI got it in 2001 and haven't ride on in over 4yrs. It's been on my driveway until few weeks ago that I have a cousin from Nigeria who said she like it. The bad boy starts and runs very well but wouldn't enter reverse. I was told its the transmission problem. Now I had to pay $3,250 to get the transmission rebuild by of the best transmission place in Texas with 3yrs warrantee. Is that usually a problem with Audi's? Because I think I wanna get the 2013 A6 next week. Any advice on both one with rebuilt transmission and A6 that I'm about to get? It's really cool.. My Gf got one and I think it's cool especially the interior Plus I heard they using have gear problem. Please advice cuz I have going to the mechanic shop especially the dealers workshop since that's the only place I love servicing my vehicles |

After all my research, I still consider 2004 or 2005 Audi A6 (V6) 3.2 quattro avant-wagon as my 1st choice seconded by the "all road quattro avant" in terms of load space, power, speed & stability? How reliable is this ride? I need it for my weekly fruit (pineapple) supply business. It will embark on total of 10 hrs (to & fro) weekly journey, will it serve the purpose? How economical is it? Are the parts available? Mr. Siena and other audi fans please help me out. |

Hello Siena, 01) Make: Audi 02) Model:A6 Quatrro 03) Engine size: 2.8 04) Transmission type: 5 speed Tiptronic 05) Model year:2001 06) Spec (Euro or US): US 07) Drive configuration:Front wheel drive Issue with Car Hello Mr Siena, I have an Audi 2001 model and I had my radiator changed but since then, it always over heats when I am in slow moving traffic. It seems that the mech didn't properly bleed the radiator when he changed it. I located one bleed hole between the battery and brake fluid reservoir and bled it. The overheating reduced but still happens sometimes. I read online that there are 3 bleed holes but I havent been able to locate the other 2. Can you please show me (with pictures if possible) where the other 2 bleed holes are? Or is it something that an expert must do? Thank you in anticipation of your advice |

Hello Siena, 01) Make: Volkswagen 02) Model:Golf 4 03) Engine size: 1.6 04) Transmission type: 5 speed 05) Model year:2003 06) Spec (Euro or US): Euro 07) Drive configuration:Front wheel drive Issue with Car When I start the car and engage it for movement, after 3 -4 seconds it beeps 3 times and this beep stops and it does not beep again until I turn off the car, turn it on again then engage it for movement then it beeps 3 times again. It has been doing this for 4 days now. Although this beep does not impair the car movement in anyway or show any other sign. The first time I noticed it was when it beeped and the engine oil light came up on the dash board, I then topped up the engine oil and it has being giving me this 3 times beep ever since. My first guess is it requires engine servicing which I hope to take to the mechanic tomorrow for servicing but I am hoping to get a better advice from you before I do that. It also show this "INSP" on the dash board where you have the speedometer. Thank you in anticipation of your advice |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by Nobody: 3:14pm On Jun 01, 2013 |
You're correct. Service is due. As long as "INSP" (inspection) is showing on the display, you'll get the "beeps" on start-up. |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by zigalo(m): 6:30pm On Jun 01, 2013 |
Hello Seina, Thank you for your quick response Volkswagen Golf 4. Another question is how do I clear the "INSP" after full servicing because after servicing the car on two ocassion the sign never goes off. |

[b]Dear Siena, 1.Make:Audi 2.Model:A4 3.Engine Size:1.8 4.Transmission Type:Automatic 5.Model Year: 1998 6.Spec: Euro 6.Drive Configuration: Front Wheel Drive Issue With Car I noticed that my car jerks when i drive with or without AC. As result of this , i changed both fuel pump and filter as directed by my mechanic, but the issue is still there. Against my earlier resolve not to use injector cleaner,i had to use it yesterday because i was travelling from Uyo to Abuja (about 700km) hoping that it will help, but no change was noticed. Another thing i noticed was that fuel consumption rate has increased as a result despite that the movement is not smooth. I struggled throughout the journey both to overtake and climb hills ,it was as if someone is pulling the car from behind . I have used this car for about 24 months and i have traveled far and wide with it,this is the first time i am noticing such a thing. Please what do you advice now. |
Re: The Audi And Volkswagen Issues Resolution Thread by eaglevirus: 10:41am On Jun 06, 2013 |
im no expert hear, but i drive cars. if u add injector cleaner to your fuel thank, you would normally( making reference to a 2010 optima with no issue) notice an alarming increased fuel consumption rate. this is probably because ur fuel mixture is now lighter than normal petrol. so if didnt notice the increased fuel consumption before adding the cleaner, you can wait till you exhaust ur fuel reserve splendore: [b]Dear Siena, then observe again before taking actions in that direction. |
