Last year, precisely on Monday 30 January 2023, a post on SpaceX’s Twitter account announced the launch of its service in Nigeria – the first of 53 African countries to receive it.

Within a year, Starlink has now become the West African nation’s number 3 internet service provider (ISP).

Currently, the leading ISPs in Nigeria with their active subscriptions are:

IST: Spectranet Ltd: 113,869
2ND: FiberOne Broadband Ltd: 27,000
3RD: Starlink Services LLC: 23,897

However, cellular mobile internet service remains the primary gateway for internet access, for the majority of the country’s citizens.

As at December 2023, mobile internet subscriptions in Nigeria were 163.35 million, with 262,206 of them being for fast internet access.
