This old National Anthem was opposed by a Yoruba group, Egbe ọmọ Odùduwà, following it's adoption during the colonial rule.

Our malnurished kids in government schools are still struggling with the current anthem now this! Are these politicians okay?

Will it reduce the level of corruption?

Our legislators are busy chasing shadows, while the entire country is burning. There are better areas they can work on, instead of focusing on what is and what is not the national anthem, like the unbundling of NIPOST into Nigeria postal commission (PostCom), the regulator, and the Nigerian Post limited (NIPOST Ltd), the player. It’s absurd that the current NIPOST is both a regulator and a player in the same industry. It’s oversized and consequently, inefficient. Due to the vast size of this country, the logistics sector is a potential goldmine for the country if properly harnessed. Imagine online shops like Jumia and Konga using NIPOST’s network for goods delivery, instead of spending extra money to establish their own courier network. Amazon in the US makes use of USPS for some delivery. That counts for ease of doing business. Nigerian shoppers on Aliexpress knows how annoyingly crappy NIPOST’s service is. I believe if the establishment is unbundled and the principles of New public management (NPM) introduced into running it, it will do better. This is what I want our senators and representatives to be thinking about, not frivolities.

"Hail Thee"
Old English expression.

Backward thinking senators.
Re: Senate Passes Bill On Old National Anthem by BondRiv: 11:00pm On May 28
The president should not assent to it. Did Nigerians ask for this? These old people representing themselves are imposing their anthem on the younger generation. Pathetic. In spite of the numerous problems, this is what they prioritized. The aim is already defeated. They will have to revert back.

The great imbecilic failed state.

The confused parliamentarians have come up with another exercise in motion without movement.

Hopefully it will help stave off the starvation in the land, and also stop the "japa" craze.

Nigeria is a joke

All of these are gimmicks to divert your attention from what's happening.. There's a social engineering company whose job is to come up with silly ideas like this to test the stupidity of the populace.. They do this to check if the people are still divided or not... It will interest you to know that Tinubu, Atiku, Obi are not enemies.. They meet in their secret meetings while we fight over left over food..

Trying to enact a forced sense of patriotism instead of addressing the issues behind the general discontent is a waste of useful time. Address the hardship and challenges faced by people and the economic woes. Then the sense of patriotism will come naturally.

How quick they are at trivial matters but when it comes to matters that uplift the common man, they waste months deliberating on it. We are still requesting for minimum wage of 100k, government is still haggling with NLC......
Re: Senate Passes Bill On Old National Anthem by SpiritedCheer(f): 12:31am On May 29
Do you guys need further proof that Nigerian leadership is clueless?

Five years ago, I was laughed at by young people when I wrote that Nigeria's main problem is NOT corruption. You can still have advancement with corruption. Nigeria is at a stand still, because leadership is clueless.

Ikpeazu is walking free, despite clear evidence of fraud. And Yahya Bello has not been been brought to justice, despite paper trail of his crime.

Poor countries and countries at war have more reliable and stable power supply than Nigeria.

Lack of economic opportunities and hardship have plunged Nigeria into insecurity and chaos!

Nigeria is on the brink of disintegration!

And the the Senate is debating national anthem!!!!

Our leaders(especially d politicians) need to change their ways of doing things moderately because what we are facing at present in ds country doesn't have anything to do with National Anthem but LEADERSHIP FAILURE! Can a hungry man, woman or child or someone in kidnapper's den remember to sing d national anthem? I doubt it. Nigerians are not asking for much but a safe atmosphere.
Re: Senate Passes Bill On Old National Anthem by Bolajodus: 4:12am On May 29
As the Senate graciously welcomes the reversion to the old national anthem, they must be ready to do us Nigerians good by also reverting to the regional system of government to complement the old anthem.

Truly Nigerians deserve the kind of stupid and senseless leadership they vote in.
How does this change of national anthem bring down the skyrocketing inflation and naira instability in the Forex market?
How does it help to bring down the price of petrol and diesel ?
By the way, isn't the matter of anthem change supposed to be put to a plebiscite or referendum as was done in countries that changed theirs?
Really can anything good and praiseworthy come out of APC?

Government headed by old cargos

Should we be surprised?
Brains r outdated
They can't recite the present anthem. Have you seen them disgraced during screening?
They want us to go back to what they are used to.

I have always said that the leadership of this country is shallow-minded. They have all just proved me right once again!
Of all the challenges bedeviling this country, they could not pass laws to cushion our suffering, the best they can offer us at this time is change of national anthem?
We can all see that what they do in that national assembly is to share money and deliberate on useless matters.
This country is doomed!
Re: Senate Passes Bill On Old National Anthem by Juniormajor(m): 7:29am On May 29
