Peter Obi should not go there oo. An ibo man is not fit to rescue yoruba people from a collapsed building talk less of a collapsing Nigeria.

90% of buildings in Lagos islands are death traps, unless the state government goes in with sweeping demolition, lives will be a gamble in any of those potential death structures.

When a society doesn't respect professionals, this is what happens.

Greedy home owners and property developers don't want to pay civil engineering professionals so they opt for cheap services from "experienced bricklayers" who know nothing about structures and manage where they're not supposed to manage...
and when professionals are corrupted nkọ ?

@Opamoses1,

Lekki is a different location from Lagos Island, Ikoyi Island or Victoria Island (Iruland). Lekki is a Peninsula and this is why Lekki Peninsula is used to describe that whole landmass.

For those who don't know, the entire Lekki Peninsula got it's name from Lekki Town (which is an indigenous Ijebu town in Lagos State) in Ibeju-Lekki LGA of Lagos State. Lekki Phase 1 is NOT the real Lekki Town. Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Epe LGA and Ikorodu LGA are the 3 Ijebu-owned LGAs in Lagos State sharing borders with the indigenous Ijebus of Ogun State right across the Lagos-Ogun States boundaries.

Therefore, Victoria Island Extension, Lekki Phase 1 of today used to be part of the Maroko slum until the then Lagos State Administrator Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki ruthlessly demolished the residential slum overnight in 1990 for reclamation and further gentrification. Then plots were resold. As of the time the then Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos came onboard in 1999, Lekki Phases 1 and 2 did NOT even exist as built up areas!

So, a Peninsula is any landmass that is almost surrounded by water, hence Lekki Peninsula, Bakassi Peninsula, etc.

An Island is any landmass that is completely surrounded by water, hence, we have Lagos Island, (Iru Island or Victoria Island, Ikoyi Island, etc.

Hope that helps.

And the enforcement self is all about making more money to government and the officials.

The agency will not go searching for debilitating structures dotted all over Lagos but will be looking for new structures on some 'acclaimed waterways' to demolish...

Uchu!

And what is wrong in searching for structures that were built on waterways so as to demolish and remove them?

Sigh... Just look at the cheap materials used to support a building of multiple storeys. undecided

No wonder some Nigerians avoid contracting their personal buildings to their fellow countrymen.

Must we cut corners and be corrupt in everything??!

Even with your proper permit the buildings will continue to collapse in Lagos due to corruption.
