The Faculty of Social Sciences, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, on Thursday, 23rd May, 2024 formalized an agreement with the Texas Southern University (TSU) Houston, Texas, United States of America, through the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs on exchange programmes, geared towards promoting collaborative academic opportunities for both institutions.
The collaborative process started in 2019 with the Carnegia Institute, an international scholarship programme whose responsibility is to sponsor Africans in the diaspora who are lecturing in universities in the United States and Canada.

Speaking on the importance of the partnership, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Smart Otu noted that the University initiated the process in 2019, stressing that one of the benefits of the programme was the collaboration between the host institution, AE-FUNAI and the scholars’ institution, adding that he was elated that the dream has finally become a reality.

He assured the American scholars that AE-FUNAI was committed to providing the necessary support to ensure the successful implementation of the terms of agreement of the exchange programme.
Prof. Andrew Ikeh Ewoh, the Interim Dean, Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, Texas Southern University, while speaking on behalf of the visiting team, stated that the terms and conditions of the MoU were to develop academic and educational cooperation, promote relations as well as ensure mutual understanding between the two institutions.

He noted that the MoU covers faculty exchange, staff exchange, scholarship in terms of publications and joint application for research grants amongst others, adding that the programme will be a win-win situation for the host institution.
He equally appreciated the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Sunday Elom for the hospitality accorded to them, while looking forward to partnering and collaborating with staff and students in moving the institution forward.
While responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elom, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Romanus Ejiaga, thanked the American scholars for finding out time to visit the university, stating that there were numerous gains in the collaboration, especially now that the country is talking about international education and enhancement of academic quality, adding that the agreement would be beneficial to both institutions.

The delegates from the Barbara Jordan-Mickey Leland School of Public Affairs, Texas Southern University, United States that visited the University for the signing of the MoU included: Howard Henderson, Professor of Justice Administration, George Kr¬ieh, former Dean, Barbara Jordan-Micky Leland School of Public Affairs and a Professor of Public Science and Public Administration, Declan Ihekwoaba Onwudiwe, Professor of Administration of Justice, Carnegia African Diaspora Scholar Fellowship-AE-FUNAI and Andrew Ikeh Emmanuel Ewoh, Interim Dean, Barbara Jordan-Micky Leland School of Public Affairs, Texas Southern University and a Professor of Political Science and Public Administration.
