Opay and the likes kind of exposed me to the greediness of this conventional banks.

Opay and palmpay, will give you voucher and cashbacks. But these conventional banks only care about their gluttony and greediness.

It seems their profits increased in real terms if we use the black market rates of the 1st quarter of 2023 and compare it with the 1st quarter of 2024.

This is impressive.

How meaningful is this result for the inflation rate that has made nonsense of the value of our currency since ThiefNuibu’s Emilokan continued Buhari and APC mismanagement of the economy that was packaged as change in 2015 but is nothing other than enikanlomọ shege?

Of what benefits to a layman?

No road done by them or schools.

Not even giving account owners some cash back or points that can be used for data/airtime.

Only charging sms fee, e-mail fee, account balance check fee, stamp duty, statement of account fee.

Don’t even think of their high loan interest.

All these companies are part of the problem in the country as they’re not in any way helping the masses in this hard time.

Well, it’s business. It’s meant for profits.

Congratulations to them.

With all the huge profit, the services is still poor.

I wonder if they don't upgrade their tech with part of the profit made.

The business concerns that govt need to probe in Nigeria mostly are the commercial banks.

They are thieves. And I am not mincing any words.

All other business sectors are mostly groaning heavily with losses. . But these section keeps Milking dry the people by cutting corners. Esp. with FX transactions and processes.

Herbert Wigwe (a bank employee) was building a university worth billions of dollars within an economy where most people where looking for money to buy a bread to eat. Something is terribly wrong there.

They should invest half of it in Agriculture. These banks need to start being supportive in the areas of poverty alleviation and human development.

Illegal transaction charges without cause + Backdoor forex transactions. The irregularities in Nigeria banking sector is running on a parallel line with NNPC corrupt practice.
Are you not Nigerian? You cannot be any different from the so called banking sector, and the petroleum sector.

It should surprise any sane person why banks keep posting huge profits while the real sectors that drive any economy of the world top economies are declaring losses, insolvency, deinvesting, closing shops.

The profits do not have impact on the economy because of corruption, round triping, causing deliberate efficency in banking process. Imagine you want to withdraw 100k from an ATM, to do that you must break it down to 5 withdrawal, unsolicited sms that will benefit them, etc

How did First Bank make the profit?

First Bank whose Internet banking app cannot permit Diaspora Nigerians to transfer money from their First Bank account.
Email First Bank for assistance, the mail is either returned unsent, or nobody replies you from January 1, to December 31.

Thieves. Economy is in downturn. Companies are closing up left right and center. Various companies have warehouses filled with unsold items due to lack of demand.

But all Nigerian banks are declaring huge profits! Is that normal? Even during corona when most banks in the world were declaring losses, Nigerian banks were still posting profits. That shows that Nigerian banks are simply parasites.

The economy can't be sick and yet banks are making profit. That means something is wrong. Nigerian banks are a primary reason why things are so expensive in this country.
i dont understand you...should a company be posting Losses year on year? The way you people reason stinks!

5 times or 10 times?

I am waiting for GT Bank.

They deducted about N5k for monthly maintenance, VAT & taxes.

Imagine doing that for 20m customers

This one of areas where the CBN are forming blindness when it comes to banking supervision. The banks seem to serve the interest of government and politicians. No impact on the real sectors of the economy. Arbitrary and unreasonable high loan interest and aiding money laundering.
