Indigenes of Lagos State are expressing their strong opposition to a bill proposing the return of Nigeria to a regional government system.

Represented by the De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, Lagos indigenes are firm in their stance against being included in the Western Region under the proposed legislation.

According to a statement from the Media Office of De Renaissance Patriots Foundation, the group highlighted their rejection of the bill by stating, “This bill that is being proposed or suggested spells an ominous sign to us from Lagos State. It is a further attempt to subsume our aspiration into a larger group that is antithesis to whatever we believe in as indigenes of the state.”

The group emphasized the lack of extensive consultations on the matter and emphasized their preference for an independent status for Lagos State. They pointed out that historical experiences have shown that being part of a larger region has not benefitted Lagos indigenes, citing instances of marginalization from their neighbors in the South West.

The statement further noted the dissatisfaction with the lack of progress and development experienced by Lagos indigenes when part of a region, asserting that being included in the Western Region historically proved to be an aberration.

The De Renaissance Patriots Foundation is therefore calling for a referendum to gauge the true desires of the people of Lagos State regarding their inclusion in any regional system.

They reference the opposition of past leaders and traditional rulers to such inclusion and vow to resist any attempt to bring Lagos State into a regional structure against their will.

Furthermore, the group urged the representatives of Lagos State in the National Assembly to seek input from elders, statesmen, and stakeholders before making any decisions on the bill.

They stressed that the issue transcends party politics and requires a careful consideration of the wishes and interests of the people of Lagos State to prevent their inclusion in the proposed South West Region under the bill.

Lagos state that was created during military era

Lagos state is made of

Lagos island division, Ikeja division, Ibeju Epe division, Ikorodu division and Badagry division.

Only Lagos island was not part of Western Nigeria.

Lagos island was the federal capital territory.

Before the joining of Lagos colony to southern protectorate, majority of yoruba land was administrated as Lagos protectorate.

The man child called Adele who feels Lagos island alone should control the fortunes of lagos state should go and rest.

This is the only way out, otherwise any gains Tinubu makes in the next 8 years will be reverse by some certain people I won't mention them. Obasanjo made gains, the next person immediately after him got there reckless spending began. Then Jonathan after him another senseless spending figure it out if you have a brain.
