In essence, are You advising us to sit down and keep looking and suffering in pain.
If what you deduced from my post is that you sit down, keep looking, and suffering in pain, good luck in doing that. Also, if you can do something, do it. But I advise you to return to my post and take note of the three solutions I raised there. If none is applicable to you....do.what is in your mind. If you think you can win the Nigerian government, good luck. Go.ask your parents and grandparents.

Verily I say unto you....it is far better to let the ignorant who had made up his mind on what to do do that which is in his mind than suggesting way out gor him. My post is not for everyone.

Stop spending your productive time in church doing vigil and making pastors richer with the small you have. Get a second job! Minimum wage workers abroad have 2 jobs to make ends meet. You have time to spend in vigil after work but you have no time to take a second job?

I don't know the abroad you are referring to anyway. But one thing I noticed about Nigerians working two jobs in the UK is that, not that they can't survive with just one job on their own. But because they wanted to send money home, mostly they engage in 2 or more jobs.

I only work part time, 24 hrs per week, just 3 days and my wife also works same pattern, with two kids we are okay. Living in 3 bedroom flats. It's only when Billing from Nigeria comes thru for my wife she always pick extra shift or overtime.

Maybe if Nigeria too can shift to hourly rate work. Then maybe things fit dey different. And more jobs for many, so the money can go round.

The daily pay of a laborer in Nigeria is 3,000 Naira.
One loaf of bread costs 2,000 Naira.
One bottle of Orobo Pepsi costs 500 Naira.
One derica of beans costs 1500.

Any monthly minimum wage below 200,000 is a hogwash.

I lived in the Uk for over 2 decades. I worked 2 full time jobs myself as a security and as a Mac Donald’s worker and you know how hard Macdonald’s work is.p if you have ever tried it or know someone who has and Uk security is not work where you sit down like these lazy nigggggers here. The problem with the Nigerian is they are lazy and entitled and have been conditioned to pray for everything instead of working. A minimum wage Nigerian will have a full time job and instead of getting another he will spend the time in church praying for miracles.

Whatever your reason for doing 2 jobs is immaterial, the bottom line is your single job is not enough which is the point of the minimum wage worker in Nigeria.

Nigerians wamt politicians to also earn minimum wage. They should be paid the same way others are paid.

They should earn as the masses earn. Easy peezee.

If it isn't enough they should vacate the office and let others occupy.

In as much that I agree with you that we pray a lot for everything in Nigeria, and that is just the way we are brought up. But, to be reasonable the jobs are not out there, many graduates of 10 years ago are out there with no jobs. So, where do u want to see 2 place to work.

And u here in the UK were able to work 2 jobs because it is hourly work based. If ur contract is 37hrs a week, u know by say 4 days u will meet up with the hours. So u have extra 3 days and the jobs are out there. If u like u look for another job or use the 3 days to rest.

And that is my point, we have created a culture of entitlement and though they are not solely responsible, our pastors have contributed massively to it by encouraging miracles and prayer instead of work. That is why the economic contribution of the average Nigerian worker is N150,00k a month. If an average worker contributes 150k, how little is a minimum wage worker contributing economically? We are a very unproductive people, the reason why salaries are low is because it can take 3,4,5 people to do the job of 1 person so naturally the salary that should go to one person is shared. It is only in Nigeria you will employ someone whose only task is to tear receipts from customers exiting a supermarket…think about it…that in itself shows the Nigerian worker has so little economic value. That you can employ one just to tear receipts. Thank God you live in the Uk, do you see security men sitting down? Do you see workers in commercial and government establishments idling around doing nothing? Toh!

Normally your salary should be less than your economic contribution as an employee. If you want to work in Nigeria, there is work, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise and those who deliver value get paid well precisely because most are useless and unproductive.

Oh and by the way it is not the way we the old anthem generation were brought up. This religiousity and praying for miracles and favoir started with Pentecostal Christianity and that’s largely post 1990 phenomenom.

Please tell these people here at home. They think they can japa and continue their nonsense abroad. Abroad if they pay you £1, you will earn that £1. I am always amazed in Nigeria when I go to a supermarket or shopping mall and the staff are playing Christian music or music of any kind and dancing. That’s why they are on minimum wage that can’t take them anywhere.

In fact I remember the day I went to order some furniture from a Lebanese, he told me he could get it done the next day. “But you know your people have to go to church”. It wasn’t a Sunday, his staff attend night vigil on fridays. You and I know that if it was in the Uk we’d happily stay and get paid time and a half or whatever…not Nigeria, they must attend vigil. Then there was the I went to cash and carry and the staff were playing Christian worship songs singing, I just walk out in disgust…I am a Christian myself. Somebody employed you to sell goods and a customer walked in needing attention instead your loud music was a turnoff and none of them even noticed me. These things happened about 10 years ago but it was when I knew religion has killed the Nigerian work ethic. These are the workers whose salaries can’t take them home. How can it, when someone employed you to sell his goods but you didn’t notice the customer because you were singing and dancing to loud music?

Don’t let anybody tell you there are no well paying jobs in Nigeria. The problem is mediocre workers.

So your anecdote applies to over 150 million Nigerians? If even half are lazy then the crime rate would be in every state. You're out of touch, your posts just highlight one or two points from the people replying you then apply a broad generalization to it. Please list the two jobs you think an average Nigerian ought to have, or can all Nigerians pick up a fast food job by night and civil service job by day? Or can we all have trade jobs? People like you are most likely sponsored to spread disunity on this forum or have some agenda behind your posts.
Before Nigeria got this way people could work one job and afford a house, is that feasible for most anymore? No, but you in the UK you want Nigerians to pick up multiple jobs, jobs that don't exist here compared to the UK, at least if you're spreading propaganda, spread something more realistic, though from the average nairaland puff piece it's expected to see gutter content.

First of all I live in Nigeria. I am also an employer of Labour commercially and privately. So I talk from a position of knowledge and experience.
Secondly, in Nigeria of the past there was work ethic…that has gone and a reason for that is Pentecostal Christianity and entitlement mentality.

I have some minimum wage staff that I retain simply because I know they have families not because they bring any real value for what they do or don’t do. It’s only in Nigeria you pay someone you know doesn’t do anything because you. This is why I can say for a fact that many people will lose their jobs especially in the private sector if they dare ask for a salary increase because many employers just keep them on for emotional/benevolence
and not economic reasons.

I already gave you the example of my gardener. I wanted to sack him a few years ago because he useless. He used to be full time and earning now N50k a month, at the time he was on 40k a month. My wife persuaded me to keep him for 3 days a week and increase his salary at the time to N50k. I since found out he was only coming half days for only 2 days a week because he does other jobs on other days. Bottom line is he has 4 other jobs. At least he showed initiative. Others are spending their time in church praying and fasting.

I am fine with that because like I said he is useless and I have people in the house who do the things he is supposed to do anyway but he dare not ask me for a raise.

Let me tell you something about 95% of Nigerian minimum wage workers in my experience. They are mostly useless and not worth the little they earn. You have to be really useless to earn minimum wage in Nigeria. We retain them because the next one will be the same. You sack one the next one is equally or more useless. Every now and again one comes along you can’t afford to let go…..that’s the one you pay the big wages.

I always tell them but they never seem to understand you are not a skilled worker. I can have 10 of you tommorow. So if you have no special skill seperate yourself from the crowd with your dedication to your job and when you do, whatever you ask your employer will give you. But you can’t come with entitlement mentality and wushu washy attitude to work and be demanding salary increase…Lori kini? Which work are you doing, what value are you adding to my life? It’s not just minimu wage workers, same with many graduates.
