The Presidency denied claims Wednesday that it was planning to pay N5.4 trillion in fuel subsidy programmes in 2024. Recall that Abubakar Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, asked President Tinubu on Wednesday to stop deceiving Nigerians about his administration's genuine position on petroleum subsidy. He claimed that, despite Tinubu's public statements about removing petrol subsidies, the administration had been surreptitiously paying trillions of naira for petrol subsidies, with subsidy payments under Tinubu's watch expected to reach N5.4 trillion this year. Again yesterday, Atiku accused Tinubu's administration of misusing public funds by secretly paying fuel subsidies. However, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated in a statement yesterday that the era of petroleum subsidies has ended.

This government is not straightforward. So much confusion among the presidency aides.
