WE DON’T WANT ANY HIKE IN FEES, STUDENTS CRIES OUT AS SCHOOL MANAGEMENT THREATENS WITH DSS AND SECURITY.

on 30th May, 2024 the general and expanded student representatives held a meeting which drew it’s conclusions requesting for a meeting with the management of the university for a diplomatic interface to explain the ambiguities observed in the students user charges as mentioned by the students.

The students also understood that hostel accommodation were Increased in the last session on grounds of renovating the hostels and nothing has been done to that effect and yet they told students executives that they were considering increments on some of the hostels which is not right.

Also, the students pay students dues as part of tuition fees, these dues are meant to facilitate the running of the activities of the Students’ Union but the management has refused to fund the activities of the union even though students had paid school fees for the last session instead we were told in a meeting with management that our monies has been borrowed and will be paid back when students pay fees for this semester. We had written several letters and tried having an interface with the management to understand all these. During the break management met with our executives and when these issues were raised they assured of working in harmony with the union in seeing that if increments are to be made we will be told and carried along respectively but that wasn’t done just for us to observe inconsistent increments in tuition fees, we also tried meeting with the management which they fixed a meeting and later said they were going to reschedule the meeting only for us to see a notice of the dissolution of the Students’ Union by the Dean of Student affairs this act is unconstitutional because going also by our constitutional provisions it is the students in a meeting ( called CONGRESS) that can dissolve their leadership. The management went on to make statements of setting up a caretaker committee which also going by the Students’ Union constitution it is the CONGRESS that has the rights to set up a caretaker committee after dissolution of her leadership, when we replied the public stating this facts yesterday the Dean of Student Affairs also brought out a notice of setting up a Student Independent Electoral Committee which is also illegal.
As students we believe so much in the current government led by his excellency Alia and we know he understands the pains of a common man who is going through so much In pursuit of education and we hope that the governor will come to our aid. As students who love and protect the image our university has earned over the years, we are not interested in sabotaging that image and as a result does not have the interest of engaging In Peaceful demonstrations but believe that our governor and other relevant bodies can come to our aid against this evil act. If this is allowed to be done then a lot of students may drop out of school which is not part of the reasons why the school was established. As a concern student I know I have not stated it all but we are been treated unjustly and trying to speak out is an offense to our formators.

In an attempt to hold a student congress police officers and DSS were sent to arrest us yesterday but because this officers understood the law we were able to provide sections of our constitution that permits our gathering and instead they stood around us until we had our congress and we bid them farewell then dismissed.

It is our prayers that the governor and relevant authorities come to our rescue.
May God help us.

The students demands are:
1. They should be no increments in students user charges
2. The management should renovate the hostels as assured.
3. The Students’ Union budget should be funded
4. The dissolution of the students leadership both cabinet and parliament by the Dean of students is unconstitutional and holds no ground.
5. All electoral processes introduced are unconstitutional
6. They should stop sending people to threaten the Students’ union leaders.

Aluta Continua ✊
