NYSC camp requirements for registration (Compulsory)

The documents below are Compulsory (If you arrive in the NYSC camp with none of them, you will not be registered by the camp officials)
1. Final year ID card

You need to go with the original and two (2) photocopies. To get a ‘final year ID card’, go to the Directorate of Students’ Affairs in your school, and a request for one. NYSC also accepts School ID Card instead of final year ID card. But will not accept departmental ID card.

2. Statement of result (B.SC or HND)

You need to go with the original and four (4) photocopies of your Degree or HND statement of result. If you have the original certificate itself, better. But if you don’t, just go with the statement of result.

If you do not have your statement of result, do not go to the NYSC camp. For foreign trained graduates, you must present the original certificate itself.

Besides that, persons who graduated from Polytechnic within Nigeria should go with both ND and HND statement of results.

Medical Doctors, Pharmacists, Optometrists or other medical profession, should go to camp along with the original of registration certificate with the Nigerian Medical Council, Pharmacist Board or Optometrist Registration Council and evidence of completion of houseman-ship or internship.

3. NYSC Call-up letter

Never forget your call-up letter! You need to go with the original and four (4) photocopies. NYSC will send this letter to you a few days after online registration.

Please, DO NOT laminate your call-up letter because NYSC will reject a laminated copy.

4. NYSC Green card

Please, do not forget your Green Card. Go with the original and four (4) photocopies. Green Card is the online print-out slip after NYSC online registration. Also, Do NOT laminate it!

Note: the Green Card and call-up letter are to be printed out in colored.

5. Recent passport photograph

Please, go with eight ( copies. The background color should be white or off-white. Don’t listen to anyone that says you should go with over eight copies.

6. Medical Certificate of Fitness

Go with two (2) copies of a medical certificate of fitness got from any government hospital or military clinic in Nigeria.

7. Uploaded Documents

Foreign trained graduates should go to camp with the original of all documents they uploaded during online registration.

CODE AND CONDUCT
DURING THE PERIOD OF ORIENTATION (part 1)

Every member shall:

1. Attend regularly, and participate, fully in all official engagements on the field, at lectures and all places of work.

2. Any member who comes late to any official engagement on the field, at lectures or places of work shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to be decamped and sent out of the camp.

3. The member shall only be allowed to come back for service by joining the next batch for the orientation exercise.

4. Not leave orientation camp or absent himself from any official activity without the written consent of the State Coordinator but when absent from his duties on account of illness, ensure that such absences is covered by an Excuse Duty Certificate issued by a medical doctor then on duty at the camp.

5. Any member who leaves the camp without the permission from the State Coordinator shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to be decamped and sent out of camp.

6. The member shall only be allowed to come back for service by joining the next batch for the orientation exercise.

7. Not gamble within the premises.

8. Any member who gambles shall be reported to the police for prosecution.

9. Not be in possession of fire arms or ammunition.

10. Any member who flouts this rule shall be reported to the police for prosecution.

11. Not smoke, chew anything whatsoever, make or answer calls, while on parade and at any other time, not smoke in a prohibited area or throw lighted cigarette butts or lighted matches about the premises carelessly.

12. Any member who is in possession of Hard drugs Indian hemp, heroine etc. shall be reported to the police for prosecution.

13. Not get drunk.

14. Any member found to be drunk shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extra drill and/or confinement to the camp rehabilitation room for thirty (30) minutes.

15. Not receive visitors in the camp except on Saturdays, Sundays and public Holidays.

16. Any member who flouts this rule shall be tried by the camp court and, if found guilty, be liable to extra drill and/or confinement to the camp rehabilitation room for thirty (30) minutes.

17. Wear the various uniforms provided for the activities

18. Any member who refuses, fails or neglects to comply with this rule shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to be decamped and sent out of the orientation camp

19. Not keep animal pets in camp

20. Any member who brings animal pets to camp shall not be registered and if already registered, shall be decamped.

History of Mammy Market

It was in 1959. Mammy Ode, a young girl from Jericho-Ugboju in the present Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State was married to Anthony Aboki Ochefu, a young Non-Commissioned military officer who had just been posted to Enugu from Abeokuta. They were quartered at the Army Barracks, Abakpa, Enugu. To beat idleness and perhaps earn some money to support her young family, Mrs. Mammy Ochefu established a soft drinks business. She prepared gruel, which is called umu or enyi in Idoma, or kunu in Hausa, for sale to soldiers.

She soon became popular with her stuff as soldiers trooped to her house to buy enyi. Some of her best customers were officers, who always sent their batmen to buy some of the gruel for them, Monday through Friday.

Somehow, one of the Non-Commissioned Officers, the RSM, did not flow with the enthusiasm, which Mammy’s gruel generated among other military men in the barracks.

He complained that the stuff was attracting flies into the barracks and ordered Mrs. Mammy Ochefu to stop its production and sale. Though surprised and disappointed at the order of the RSM, she stopped the production and sale of enyi. Her husband, not being an officer at the time, could not challenge the order of the RSM.

For weeks, Mrs. Mammy Ochefu agonized over the fate of her business, just as officers and men of the Nigerian Army who enjoyed her enyi because of its freshness and nutritional value lamented the situation.

From several quarters, pressure mounted on the RSM for a reversal of the order. After a while, he succumbed to the pressures and directed that a section of the barracks be reserved for Mrs. Mammy Ochefu to produce and sell her enyi. Her joy knew no boundaries.

Few days after, a section of the barracks was given to her. She built a small shop and soon, her business began to boom. Most of her customers booked for their shares in advance. Before noon, she would have finished selling the available enyi for the day. Soon, other women in the barracks tapped into her fortune and started selling other items. It was not long before that portion of the barracks became known as Mammy Market.

It also became a policy to establish markets inside or near military barracks in the country, initially for the exclusive use of officers and men. Today, no visit to Abuja, the Federal Capital City, is complete without a taste of fresh fish in one of the Mammy Markets, especially the one attached to Abacha Barracks. Similar markets attached to paramilitary barracks are also called Mammy Markets.

After the coup that overthrew General Yakubu Gowon, Anthony Aboki Ochefu, then a Colonel, was posted to East Central State as Military Governor. So Mrs. Mammy Ochefu and her husband returned to Enugu as the First Family; she sometimes visited the site where Mammy Market started about sixteen years earlier It must be stressed too that in retirement, Colonel Anthony Aboki Ochefu and his wife incorporated a company, Mammy Markets, which was into haulage and trading.

Mrs Mammy Ochefu 'as of time of the original written' is alive and lives at Otukpo as one of the prized legends of our time.”

Useful N.Y.S.C Terms And Definitions

Congratulations to PCMs on the beginning of your National Youth Orientation and even NYSC itself, here are NYSC terms/slangs to familiarize with especially for those are still Otondo😂 (meaning below)

Terms & Definitions

Allowee:- Allowance paid every month from the Government. All Corpers nationwide receive N33,000 from the federal government. In most states, corpers also receive a state allowee (amount can vary from state to state).

AI:- Area Inspector. Official in change of corp members in a given area. Same as LGI.

Book of Life:- It is a real, huge book signed in camp by all corpers can be signed twice if relocated (ensure you don't forget to)

CD:- Community Development by an individual, couple or group. Also called CDS.

CD card:- An official NYSC card you attach a passport pic to, that is signed by your LGI at the end of your Cd day.

Clearance:- An activity you must to do every month end to show that you are still alive and present. You also submit a letter from your employer  to get paid.

CLO:- Corps Liaison Officer. The “head corper” of your Local Government Area.

CPI:- Corp Producing Institution, this are tertiary institution recognized qualified to be mobilized graduates.

Green Card:- This is a proof of payment for callup letter, and contains call up number too, don't be deceived by green. It is a regular document like receipt from NYSC

Ghost Corper:- A corper that does everything (including collect money), but nobody has ever seen them. (Don't be such)

HSE:- Health Safety Environment. A course available in NYSC.

LG:- Local Government. You’ll meet your CD group here once a week.

LGI:- Local Government Inspector. The official rep in your LG. Same as AI(see definition above).

LGA:- Local Government Area.

Mami Market:- A collection of shops in camp where corpers can find everything they need from bukka to tailors and cobblers. Some camps even have shawarma and arcade games. Call it the chillaxing spot for corpers, camp officials and soldiers.

NIM:- National Institute of Management. A course available in NYSC.

NYSC:- National Youth Service Corps……..that’s what you’re doing!.

OBS:- Orientation Broadcasting Station. It is the station inside the orientation camp to give information to people inside the camp and to make the camp more lively too.

Otondo:- Friendly word for new Corper but some say it actually means Mumu.

PCM:- Prospective Corp Members. Recent graduates who are just about to start NYSC.

Platoon:- In camp corpers are split into groups called platoons.

Platoon Commander:- A corper placed in charge of a Platoon.

PMP:-  Project Management Professional. A course available in NYSC.

POP:- (Passing Out Parade) the end of your NYSC year. (Best day everrrrr!!!)

Posting Letter:- This letter tells you where you have originally been posted.

PPA:- Place of Primary Assignment.

RSM:-  An RSM serves as a general overseer to all the platoons. Platoon commandants report directly to RSM while RSM reports directly to captain.

SAED:- Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development. A program set up by government to provide skills  to corpers enabling them to start businesses  after service.

SAO:- Student Affairs Officer, this is the department in tertiary institution that takes cares of mobilization and matters with it.

“You are wrong”:- Used in camp by soldiers if you’re in the wrong place or doing the wrong thing.

ZI:- Zonal Inspector. Person in change of corp members in a given zone.

BATCH B STREAM 1 orientation camping

1. Posting to orientation camp is random. Except for married female PCM that will be posted to their husband state of residence. Others will be posted to the 37 different camp randomly in no orderly manner.
2. ⁠Prepare yourself medically, mentally and physically for the stress ahead. Get enough rest to cushion for the restless camp schedule.
3. ⁠Feeding in camp is free. 3 meals which consist of breakfast, lunch and Dinner.
4. ⁠You can get extra food in the Mami market at personal cost. You can also get other important items in camp.
5. ⁠Get all of your kits at home if you are not financially prepared or bouyant.
6. ⁠NYSC camp is a paramilitary camp and you will be treated with utmost respect, but when going to camp, don’t go with hard drugs, sharp object or heavy electronic gadgets including personal laptop.
7. ⁠Ladies should note that their monthly period will most likely surface while in camp, prepare with enough menstrual kits while going to camp.
8. ⁠Call up letter is expected from 24th of June. Be patient and wait.
9. ⁠Prepare like you are going to the farthest distance from you, while you keep your mind open to possibility of getting the state close by too.
10. ⁠If you are not ready to camp yet but you registered, simply wait till you are ready.
11. ⁠Remember that Original statement of result or Certificate is compulsory. If you don’t have original copy, stay back till you get it.

My wife registered for NYSC before we got engaged.
She was not able to go with the last batch.
Now we are married.

She has not been posted yet.
Should she still resume to the camp in my state (she registered as single) and what documents should she resume with esp my documents.

GENERAL NOTICE

i. Registration Portal is open, (portal.nysc.org). PCMs should register with only NYSC accredited cybercafé operators

ii. NIN is a prerequisite for online registration.

iii. If you are registering for the first time. Click on "Fresh Registration",

iv. if you were deployed in previous Batches and did not report to camp. Click on "Revalidation",

v. Do not thumbprint by proxy (meaning don't allow someone else to thumbprint for you).

vi. Webcam will be used for facial capturing.

NIN ISSUES

NIN provided does not exist on NIMC.

Download NIMC App and follow the instructions appropriately to validate your NIN.

GENDER AND TITLE MISTAKE ON YOUR PORTAL
Select Correct Title and Gender during Online Registration

TIPS FOR DOB CORRECTION
i. Apply for Date of Birth Correction on your dashboard with WAEC. Get WAEC Verification pin.
ii. The DOB link is active on your dashboard during Online Registration, ensure you make use of it appropriately.
iii. The WAEC Certificate must be equal or more than four (4) years as at the time of graduation.
iv. Do not use another person's WAEC detail to apply, it will be dissaproved.
v. Ensure there is no disparity of names on your WAEC and that of your dashboard.
vi. A notification will be sent to your mail when your application have been processed.
vii. If your status on your dashboard did not change, it means you are still exempted and your Exemption Certificate will be processed.
viii. Go to your Institution after 3 months and collect your Exemption Certificate.

NAME DISCREPANCY
This is to notify PCM's that addition or removal of names will no longer be allowed on the NYSC portal. Only name at Matriculation is allowed for upload on the NYSC portal by the Corps Producing Institution

However, correction of simple spelling mistakes and names re-arrangement are still allowed on your dashboard

7.
MARRIED PCMs REGISTRATION
Married Female PCMs who want to apply for Concessional Posting based on Marital grounds are to upload the following documents;
i. Marriage Certificate
ii. Newspaper change of name
iii. Identity of Husband (National ID, International Passport or Driver's Licence)
iv. Evidence of Husband's State of Residence.
v. Letter from Employee/Utility bill.

8.
DATES
Date of Birth, Date of Graduation and Course of Study will be on Certificate of National Service and Exemption Certificate.
You cannot correct any of these details after Camp Registration.

a. DATE OF GRADUATION ISSUES
PCM's with discrepancies in their Date of Graduation as uploaded on the NYSC portal and the date on their Statement of Results will not be registered in the Orientation Camp

PCMs should sort out such issues with the Student Affairs Officers (SAO) before reporting to the Camp.

Foreign-trained graduates should enter the exact date of graduation on their certificate during online registration.

b. DATE OF GRADUATION FORMAT
The correct format for Date of Graduation on Statement of Result is
Day/Month/Year

PCM are advised to take note of this

9.
STATE OF ORIGIN ISSUE
The State of Origin of the PCMs used for  NYSC mobilization emanates from the Jamb database. It cannot be changed after registration

10.
ADDITIONAL
PCM's who are serving in the Armed forces should indicate and upload necessary documents during Reg., requirement for exemption include Entering/Uploading;
i. Service Number
ii. Letter of Enlistment
iii. Introductory letter from the command
iv. Official ID Card

Note: Part-time graduates are to register online so as to enable them print their Exclusion Letter on their dashboard

Here are the;

STEPS AND MATERIALS FOR EARLY CAMP PREPARATION                                                                            
1. Prepare Your Mind:
First and foremost, you need to prepare your mind that you are leaving home for a regimented life in the camp. Life in the camp is deliberately made stressful so as to prepare you for any challenge that may confront you outside the camp. You will not find it too comfortable; it’s a camp and not your Father’s house! Just be ready for anything.

2. Itemize All Your Needs Using A Scale of Preference (very important ones first):

1. Very Important Ones
a. Statement of Result/Certificate
b. School ID card
c. Passport photographs (10 copies, white background, Surplus is better than inadequate)
d. Call-Up Letter (Do Not laminate it please)
e. Medical Certificate of Fitness indicating your health status with NMA stamp
f. NIN Print out
g. A Clear Bag file (To house the above items)
NB: Get 2 photocopies each of items A, B, E, and F above for D(get at least 5 copies), and also go with their Original copies also.

2. Other Important Ones (For your Convenience)
a. Stationeries; pen, Stapler, pin, gum, permanent marker (these will save you the stress of ‘borrow-me’ please)
b. Two or three white T-shirts and shorts (You will be given two sets but you may not like the quality, and size you want)
c. Two or three pairs of socks and white rubber tennis shoes (for rainy days)
d. Plastic bucket (You can buy it in the camp but it will be more expensive)
e. Toiletries Essentials- (Toothbrush & Toothpaste, Bath soap & Sponge, Detergent, Toilet Paper, Towel,  Slippers, Detol).
f. Bed sheet, pillow case, wrapper, one or two pairs of casual wear for Sundays and burn fire night, Cardigan
g. Face Mask
h. Mosquito Net (depending on you)
i. Handkerchiefs (very important especially for those that sweat)
j. Waist bag (very very important for housing your phones,
ID Cards, Handkerchief, biros, etc)
k. Small-sized Torchlight/Rechargeable lamp (small one please) and Sunglasses (especially if you are posted to the North)
l. Your ATM card(s) (note: some camps don't have atm so prepared for POS charges)
m. food flask, cup, spoon, water bottle for water during parade.
n. Basic drug like Panadol, Paracetamol, malaria drug, flagyl, pain relief drug and/other basis drugs. (note: all you bag is most times checked before allowing into the camp so only necessary drugs, no hard drug or sharp object is allowed)
o. Padlocks and key
p. Ladies could add any other few conveniences. (I believe you understand me.)
q. Money! Money! Money! Hold good cash/in bank something like 40k to 80k depending on how you spend.

Note again: that sharp object, rides or pet will not be allowed, and also like we said basic drugs only not unnecessary or hard ones.

21. Not take part in mob action

22. Any member who takes part in riot or mob action shall be reported to the police for prosecution.

23. Not steal.

24. Any member who steals shall be reported to the police for prosecution

25. Not take part in or organized night parties in camp without the written permission of the State Coordinator.

26. Any member who fails, refuses or neglects to comply with this rule shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extra drill and/or confinement to the camp rehabilitation room for thirty (30) minutes.

27. Not be insubordinate or rude to camp officials

28. Any member who is rude to camp officials shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extension of service for (30) days on half pay

29. Not be in possession of Hard drugs like cocaine, Indian hemp, heroine etc.

30. Any member who is in possession of Hard drugs shall be reported to the police for prosecution.

31. Not bring vehicles or motorcycles into the orientation camp.

32. Any member who brings vehicles or motorcycles to camp shall not be registered, and if already registered, shall be decamped

33. Such member shall only be allowed to return to service to join the next batch in the orientation camp

34. Not bring forged documents for registration

35. Any member who brings forged document for registration shall be reported to the police for prosecution.

36. Any member who organizes or engages in any form of secret cult activity shall be immediately suspended and the case referred to police.

37. Such member shall be allowed to return to service only if he is exonerated by the police investigation report.

38. Not address the press on any policy issue without the prior written consent of the State Coordinator.

39. Any member who addresses the press on any policy issue without the written consent of the State Coordinator shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extension of service for thirty (30) days on half pay.

5. Cookable food stuff e.g. raw yam, noodles etc.
6. Metallic cutleries e.g. fork, table knife etc.

CAMP TRAVEL TIPS YOU MUST KNOW

1. Make sure your documents are complete before setting out for camp.

2. Kindly research your destinations thoroughly before leaving.

3, On no account, should you board a vehicle by the roadside because of the seemingly attractive cheap fare. It is the highway to calamity. So many have fallen preys to armed robbers, kidnappers and ritualists due to such indiscreet action. You should board vehicles only from recognised parks.

4. Please, be conscious of your travel time. Journeys must be arranged in such a way that you arrive at your destination at the latest 6 pm. Note that if it’s not possible to arrive at your destination at the aforesaid time, please, break the journey.

5. Avoid unnecessary argument/discussion bordering on politics and religion, among others. You may unwittingly cause offence. Keep your views to yourself.

6. Be courteous, but don’t trust people too quickly and don’t be loud while answering telephone calls, so as not to unknowingly divulge information that may place you in harm’s way.

7. Watch your drinking habit. Alcohol dulls your senses. Always be sober.

8. Take only what you need for the journey. Don’t overburden yourself with loads.

9. Dress normal. Don’t overdress. Conversely, don’t dress shabbily, since either way, you unduly stand out.

10. Please, keep a very close watch over your personal effects. It is advisable that you carry your vital documents (certificates, International passport etc) with you.

11. Don’t put valuables in your back pocket for that’s always the pickpocket’s first point of call. It’s safer to use your front pocket.

12. Keep your family and trusted friends updated on your itinerary.
