Two critical events that happened in Lagos recently, in quick succession, is going to deal a devastating blow to an economy that is already facing a significant decline.

The first was the demolition of Landmark. A sort of aquatic fantasyland in Lagos that attracted lots of fun seekers. Unfortunately, the state government woke up one day and decided to destroy the assets estimated to be worth over $250 million dollars! However, the owner of Landmark did something remarkable. He didn’t take it calmly but rather fought back by giving it massive publicity. The news went viral both locally and internationally. It sent a red flag to other Nigerians and indeed the international community that Lagos is not a safe place to invest. When Lagos state government realized about the damaging publicity it generated, they tried to use some PR stunt to control it but it was too late.

The second is the shocking news of the kidnapping of the owner of LG brand representative in Nigeria, Fouani. He was kidnapped in Lagos and the kidnappers are demanding for $1.5 million dollars as ransom!!! To put this into proper contest, throughout the time kidnapping was taking place in Niger Delta, never for once did they kidnap such high profile personality. Same with Northern Nigeria. They only targeted or were only able to kidnap average local or foreign nationals who were unfortunate to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time. But to kidnap one of the richest foreign investors living in Nigeria, in broad day light, in Lagos

The worst is that all these are happening at a time when there is an unprecedented exodus of foreign and local investments from Lagos.

Would this be the beginning of the end of a city that once rivaled Nairobi, Cairo, Jo’burg as the prime destinations for investors in Africa

Kidnapping is same as man-stealing... So a kidnapper is a man-stealer... according to the Holy Bible...
Kidnapping will cease in Nigeria when every kidnapper knows nothing else but death sentence await such...
I commiserate with Mr Fouani... and pray for his speedy release...

Local investment is at an all time low for the past 20 years in Lagos.
They think the market won't reacts. Well, I'm glad Sawo Olu is already smelling the coffee!

69% of local investors, mainly of the Igbo speaking SE, are already thinking SE & SS to site their branches and holdings!

Your region has been experiencing killings on a weekly basis, you never deem it right to write any epistle on how that is affecting the economy of the region.
But here you're so obsessed with Lagos State just because of 2 incidents and you're here writing your imagination.
How many people were killed in Anambra last Friday when gunmen attacked the vigilantes? Did you write about that?
What did you write about the self imposed sit at home in the East?

Lagos economy does not depend heavily on foreign investors.

The ones there are not doing Lagos or Nigeria a favour.

They're there to help themselves - to make money.

Are Nigerians doing business in Ghana, Ivory Coast etc doing those countries a favour

You don’t seem to get the point. Kidnapping of Fouani is perhaps the most high profile kidnapping of a foreigner in Nigeria, in history. During the Niger Delta kidnapping era, they were only targeting mid-level oil workers. However, when a high profile international investor like Fouani is kidnapped in Lagos and the kidnappers are demanding $1.5 million dollars, it will definitely deal a devastating blow on the economy. It proves a point that no foreign investor is safe in Lagos.

No 2. When you the state government wakes up one morning and extrajudicially decides to demolish an investment worth hundreds of millions, it will also send a red flag about such a place as toxic.

Investors analyze a place critically before they bring in their funds and no investor will overlook those damning issues I listed.

Lol, this one is hiding as fake Aboki to throw shades. All the real abokis don abandon Tinubu since, only a few paid ones are left.

By the way, which North are you referring to? I hope it’s not Northern Nigeria because it’s currently the worst geographical area in the world today. A completely failed region with bandits controlling territories and running their own governments. A place where hundred people could be killed today and no one will report it because it’s no longer news😆😆

Northern Nigeria with 90% extreme poverty and the poverty is still growing😆😆

Northern Nigeria that is currently worse than Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen put together

Things have gotten so bad that for Islamic North that Middle belt had to hurriedly cut off links with them.

Pathetic 🤡🤡
