Governor Umo Eno's Betrayal: Unending Hunger and Poverty in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom State, once full of promise and potential, has been plunged into darkness and despair under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno. Despite his vows to protect and serve the people, Governor Eno has reneged on his promises, instead choosing to worsen the lives of the very citizens he swore to help. By unilaterally blocking the allocation of state funds and selectively doling out cash to his cronies, Governor Eno has created a cash crisis that has left the people of Akwa Ibom in a state of unending hunger and poverty.

The once-thriving economy of the state has been brought to its knees, with no tangible employment opportunities in sight. The state's educational system, once a beacon of hope, has been left to rot, with over 3000 schools in a deplorable state. Governor Eno's tokenistic effort to rebuild a mere 31 schools out of the thousands in need is a slap in the face to the people of Akwa Ibom.

The recent report by Staticsense, rating Akwa Ibom as the poorest state in South South Nigeria, is a stark reminder of the failure of Governor Eno's leadership. His priorities are clear: pay off opposition members to silence them, rather than releasing funds to ease the poverty and hunger that has gripped the state.

But what's even more disturbing is the culture of fear that has gripped the state. Governor Eno appears to be calling the shots, and anyone who dares to complain or speak out against his policies is swiftly dealt with. Recently, he fired his own Commissioner of Special Duties, Dr. Bassey Okon, for reportedly speaking out against his policies. This blatant display of authoritarianism has left many in fear of speaking out, lest they suffer the same fate.

The people of Akwa Ibom are suffering, and their cries for help are falling on deaf ears. It's a far cry from the days of Obong Victor Attah, when the state was prosperous and the people were happy. Even Senator Godswill Akpabio's tenure was marked by economic growth and development. And under former Governor Udom Emmanuel, the state was on the path to progress. But Governor Umo Eno's leadership has brought only hardship and suffering.

Instead of building on the structures left behind by his predecessors, Governor Eno has chosen to destroy them, starving the people of funds and pushing them to desperation. It's no wonder that kidnapping and other vices have become the only means of survival for some youths. Why destroy the progress made by Obong Attah, Godswill Akpabio, and Udom Emmanuel just to fulfill selfish aims? Governor Eno may strive for media publicity, but the reality on the ground tells a different story. He is not what his sycophants say he is.

The people of Akwa Ibom are dying in silence, and their hopes for a better future are dwindling by the day. It's time for Governor Eno to take responsibility for his betrayal and work towards restoring the promise and potential of Akwa Ibom State. The unending hunger and poverty must come to an end, and it must come to an end now.
