“Month-old Babies Are Dying Of Hunger In Nigeria!” - Advocacy Platform Cries Out And Comes Up With An Emergency Plan To Arrest The Situation

An advocacy platform known as Awake Digest has cried out that babies are dying of hunger in Nigeria. This is contained in a document entitled “A REPORT: Nigerian Month-old Babies Are Dying Of Hunger! - Why And How To Identify And Help Them” published on June 16, 2024.

Earlier today, we published a poignant story of a 4-month-old Nigerian baby who can hardly feed with his mother and 3 sibblings. This is a follow-up to that story.

The story in question, more than anything else, reveals that many parents of newborn babies in Nigeria can no longer afford baby food. What it means is that even babies in their numbers are going hungry in the country right now. What a shame!

It also implies that breastfeeding mothers are going hungry in their numbers too. It's as a result of the economic crunch, most of which could have been avoided. Again, what a shame!

It's really a big shame but cursing the darkness is not what we need now. Instead, we need to light a candle as much and as soon as we can.

How can we reduce or eliminate extreme hunger in Nigeria as soon as now? At least, how can we ensure that babies and breastfeeding mothers are taken out of hunger levels at least?

This Is What We Are Doing

As for us at Awake Digest, we are declaring an emergency on Nigeria's food insecurity. We will do everything we can to end extreme hunger in Nigeria as soon as possible. As we do this, we also call on the Government at all levels to take a cue from this.

In the interim, we are starting here to roll out our emergency ideas to help in this regard…

We are working on the premise that there are thousands of young Nigerian parents whose businesses and careers are severely challenged by the current poor economic indices.

First comes our idea to help in providing baby food to such families that have babies but their finances are so challenged they can't feed their babies well.

Let Such Parents Sign Up For Sponsorship - Or, YOU Can Sign Up For Them

If you have a baby but you are unable to afford baby food for the baby - or you know anyone in this kind of situation - kindly send your/their details including your/their physical address and phone number to us with the subject line, “HOPEFUL BABY FOOD BENEFICIARY”.

Make sure to include your/their phone number and physical address where the package will be delivered. Your claims will be verified by our partners in your locality too. So, don't be surprised if they ask to visit your home to ascertain the situation on ground.

Your details will be given directly to your sponsor who will send the package to you. They might opt to send you money instead.

As a beneficiary, don't worry about getting shamed because it's only your location and your sponsor’s detail alongside that will be published. This is for the sake of transparency and accountability.

Then, See How And Why We Can All Help To Feed These Babies

The first step here is to get people who are willing to sponsor packages of baby food for some babies across the country. If you are willing to do this, kindly contact us with the subject line, “BLESSED BABY FOOD SPONSOR''.

In the body of your message, tell us:
1. How many baby food packages you are willing to sponsor (for now, we estimate an average baby food package to cost the sum of ₦8,000 - Eight Thousand naira, unless otherwise stated from a later market research).
2. Then, give us details that you would like us to publish for the sake of transparency, accountability, and appreciation. Otherwise, just write ‘anonymous’.

Every donation will be noted and reported on this page. We foresee a situation where we might have to dedicate a page to this list, and it will be linked up here.

If a donor permits us, we will mention their names and other fringe details that will not compromise their privacy (like business name and contacts - which can have huge marketing value for their business). One individual or business can sponsor more than one baby or family.

Please, while the Government may not be forthcoming, let us help all we can to feed these children because they are our common future. One can also sign up as a part sponsor. Even if you can't be a sponsor at all, you can direct the attention of a potential sponsor to this. At least, you can share this until potential sponsors are reached.

Dear Scam Artists!

Any attempt to bastardize this highly inspired charitable act and workflow, will be reported to the EFCC directly because that would amount to economic sabotage of the highest order. But, even if you succeed in cheating us, YOU WILL BE CURSED WITH GENERATIONAL POVERTY. Be warned.

A More Robust Plan In The Pipeline: Suggest Potential Partners For Us

We are working on some quick partnerships with reputable faith-based charity organizations across Nigeria. Our ideal partner is a faith-based charity that has a nationwide network.

The more widespread and entrenched the network the better. For instance, a faith-based charity organization that has a branch in every church or in every mosque is a good example. They are the ones, for example, to help us in ascertaining the authenticity of each request and also midwife the sending and collection of the relief materials.

So, please, help us by suggesting any such faith-based charity organisation you know that is available in Nigeria. Clue: We are working to have a situation where, if we get a request, we can immediately contact a church or mosque close to the address where the request emanates from.

A more robust plan to help reduce or eliminate extreme hunger in Nigeria is in the pipeline. For now, what we have here is an emergency arrangement because the situation requires top-level urgency.

More Ideas Are Welcome

If you have any idea that can help us to end extreme hunger in Nigeria without delay, kindly contact us with the subject line: MY IDEA TO END HUNGER IN NIGERIA. Alternatively, you can share your idea as a comment below. Feel free to criticize the above arrangement if your criticism can help to improve the workflow. Thank you for your time and attention.

NOTE: If you want to follow the developments more closely, you can join our new transparency channel here.

Honestly, i have no more tears to shed! The ‘crime’ of those poor babies was to be born into a useless country in which selfish, hateful, bigoted, conscienceless and power-hungry dolts have the opportunity to support a visionless, clueless, greedy godfather with dodgy academic credentials to rig the electoral process and take over the country! Lunatics taking over the asylum is a apt depiction of Nigeria!

You can measure how civilised and humane a country is by the way it treats and cares for its most vulnerable!

Month old babies are to be on their mothers breast milk.
Not baby food.

We cant blame the government for everything.

Why is a mother who is already finding it difficult to feed herself and children having another baby?

We create problems and blame the government for not fixing them.

We build over drainages, we fill our drainages with trash, when flood comes we blame the government.

Even the rich are cutting down, do family planning NO, Use contraceptives NO, Use comdoms, "why I go dey use condom for my own wife?"

I don't pity poor people with many kids who cant feed.
Its just the height of stupidity.

Everyone outh to pay for their own stupidity.

There is always gonna be a man on the street till infinity... There will always be a shoe-shine-boy

Even Lazarus the poor man in the bible was homeless in heaven, despite Jesus said there are many mansions in His fathers house Lazarus had no house, he was squatting ing Abrahams house, the Bible didnt say he was in his house, the Bible said he was in Abrahams bossom
Na boys quarters be that

Well, no need cursing the dark as the report says. Let's just do what we can.
