Infinix has launched a cutting-edge Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at fostering technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students.

The inauguration ceremony took place on the university campus and underscored Infinix's collaboration with the Infinix Social Club, established in partnership with the university in 2022.

During the ribbon-cutting event, Doris Zhao, Infinix Nigeria's Senior Marketing Manager, highlighted the company's dedication to youth development.

She remarked, "At Infinix, our commitment extends beyond technology. We are devoted to empowering students, enhancing their skills, and preparing them for global opportunities.

This ICT centre embodies our collective vision of providing the tools and resources necessary to drive innovation and success."

Zhao expressed that the ICT centre's inauguration signifies the start of a journey filled with limitless potential.

She conveyed optimism about the future accomplishments that this partnership will yield and thanked the university for its warm reception and support.

Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the university’s leading position in the country.

He pointed out that the university not only emphasizes undergraduate education but also has robust postgraduate programs, with a nearly 60 to 40 ratio, aimed at serving both Nigeria and the broader African continent.

Adebowale stated, "We hope that in a few years, we’ll produce a critical mass of researchers capable of addressing the developmental challenges of the African continent."

He mentioned the university’s partnerships with institutions in Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and North Africa, forming a consortium to tackle similar challenges across Africa.

He further added that the ICT centre would be beneficial to all university stakeholders and pledged the university's commitment to its maintenance.

Adebowale assured that a system would be established to ensure the facility's upkeep and security, guaranteeing its long-term advantages for the university community.

Isn't this the centre given UI by Airtel that year that later became moribund and inaccessible? The resource centre opposite MIS and behind sub?

If so, Infinix try for this one, more sales I wish them.

Public Private Partnership(PPP) is good, but how did an ICT facility in a reputable FG University as UI deteriorated that a telecommunications company have to come to the rescue is embarrassing. What is the TETFUND doing? Seems airtel donated this facility, then another telecom is doing its renovation work? Too bad!

Di university done set up nuff ICT centers already, but now e need fi tek it to di next level . Di Dada fit to link' up wid top tech companies like Samsung, Apple, Google, Microsoft, an' more. Say mek di university truly advance an' cutting-edge, servin' di needs of di large student population. Abi, Wah gwaan, me dear? So, yuh no brain am- how many students dis ICT hub goin' accommodate, right? Well, let me tell yuh, it's no be a spacious facility, no fit capable of holdin' a large number of students, mon! We talkin' 'bout hundreds, maybe even thousands, of students goin' benefit from dis state-of-the-art ICT hub, ya hear?

So di recent link wid Infinix a good move, but more a needed fi reach excellence. One way could be fi invite each tech company fi come build an' showcase dem state-of-the-art ICT center within di university, fostering a spirit of competition an' innovation. Dis collaboration nah only gi students an' faculty access to di latest technologies an' innovations, but also gi di companies a platform fi show off dem corporate social responsibility initiatives. See ba, the companies no care for your pikin. But if dem see wella say goin' be like a big, vibrant marketplace, Dey fit come. But Dey think so, wetin make am state of di art? Infinix a-come wit' a new advert, but wah state of di art?? Wag gwaan wit' de computers, mon? How many dem got, an' what's de quality like? If dem want fi run a proper advert on Big Brother Naija, dem goin' haffi spend way more than dem got here, ya hear? An' who goin' staff de place, anyway? Infinix workers, na just another outlet fi dem. But let's give dem de benefit of de doubt, an' assume dem got de university's best interest at heart, yeah? But di dada fit say “So, Infinix, if yuh serious 'bout dis, yuh better come correct, mon! We need fi see some top-notch computers, an' a real commitment to supportin' our students. No half-way t'ings, or we'll know yuh ain't serious 'bout helpin' us grow! And evict you straight up.”

Furthermore, di university could ask each company fi set up a mini trainin' center fi skill development, weh students can get hands-on experience in buildin', repairin', an' maintainin' modern products. Dis would prepare students fi di industry an' enhance dem employability.

Fi push dis initiative further, di university can encourage di hall wardens fi partner wid different companies fi develop infrastructure an' services inna dem halls of residence. Fi example, Zik Hall could partner wid MTN, Awo Hall wid Globacom, Indy Hall wid Jumia, an' Tedder Hall wid Coldstone, promoting a culture of collaboration an' excellence.

Additionally, di university can tap into di alumni network, but first, wi need fi build a strong an' engaged alumni community dat can gi back to di university. Wi can achieve dis by hostin' campus fairs, inviting big institutions, an' givin' students opportunities fi succeed, get great grades, an' apply fi jobs an' scholarships. Wah gwaan, uni? Yuh keep failin' students, but yuh want dem to succeed and compete fi limited opportunities? Dat don't make no sense, mon!
Dem pikin be chicks, Yuh gotta give dem de support and resources dem need to soar.

By lif' up students an' cultivatin' a vibe of healthy competition, di university goin' reap di rewards of progress inna di long run, ya hear?

I hope that students are granted access to this facilities because the one done by airtel was not accessible to students.

U. I is a rigid institution that doesn't like private companies doing partnership with them. I think things are now changing.

Good. That's the cradle of Nigerian tertiary education. I hope this gets duplicated in other universities too, or at least one in each region

Meanwhile, dear Infinix, we have a budding and thriving flock of tech enthusiasts in Unicorn, Kwara too. Kindly bring one of these to us. It will bolster your brand and forge a brighter future for the Kwara environs at large. Research will also be impacted.

Gracias

Thank you. The academia in Nigeria lack management capacity yet ASSU will be all over the place criticizing folks in government. This also applies to hostels and may other facilities.

Bros it will still become moribund. If you go to Petroleum Engineering department there is one donated by Schlumberger which also became moribund. We are very unproductive people.

Yeah, tantalizer was still active when I left UI, that was one of the spot for sumptuous meals on campus then.
