Nigeria Police Force PRO, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi reacted to complaints from citizens about the extortion going on in the police stations, in the name of bail.

He blamed 'charge and bail' agents as being behind the extortions, and asked that they desist from that. He also claimed that the police grants administrative bail with no payments attached.

This claim was rubbished by X user and Lawyer, John Oladapo. He described an inexperienced lawyer as the one who takes everything the law and police says at face value which will cause distress and complications for their client. He contrasts this with an experienced lawyer, who looks for openings to negotiate bail payment so the client can avoid spending the night in cell.

He berates the Police PRO for telling obvious lies simply because he is a PRO.

What Bail is free?

To visit a detained person in Nigeria police station is not even free. The hungry looking police officers at the desk must always find means to extort you before listening to you.

He went on to admonish the police to acknowledge that they have a problem and are willing to tackle it, instead of denying it doesn't exist.

Very insightful write-up by the lawyer. Bail has never been free neither has the Police ever been anyone's friend. The Police PRO is being economical with the truth and even a village idiot knows that.

If you ever have any reason to go to the Police station, you'll hate the Nigerian Police.

Below are some of the illegal levies that Nigerian Police charge the citizens;

1- GATE PASS- the money you'll pay before even gaining access to the Police Station. Woe betides you if you try to argue with them.

2- FORM MONEY- you'll be directed to a section where you'll obtain complaint form. Of course it's not free. They will tell you that Government didn't make the provision for forms.

3- CONSULTATION FEE- you'll have to "roger" the IPO or OC before they can even hear your case.

4- MOBILIZATION FEE- the money you'll pay the Policemen that will make the arrest. They will tell you that the government only provided vehicles but not fuel.

5- BAIL MONEY- I don't think this one needs any explanation.

6- 10% tax- you're expected to pay 10% of any amount of money that the Police helps you recover from your debtors.

It's not like I hate the Nigerian Police, but if a policeman is on fire and I have a cup of water, I'd rather drink it than pour it on him.

Bail is free but you need to find something for the boys, and that is not free.
