FEC steps down minimum wage memo for more consultation with governors, private sector

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Tuesday, stepped down the memo on the new millennium wage for the nation’s public workers.

Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, disclosed this after the council meeting in Abuja.

Mr Idris said the decision would allow for more consultations between President Bola Tinubu, state governors, local government authorities and the private sector.

He revealed that the FEC did not act on the memo submitted by the tripartite committee, given that the federal government was not the sole stakeholder on the national minimum wage issue.

“(That) memo was stepped down to enable Mr President to consult further, especially with the state governors and the organised private sector, before he makes a presentation to the National Assembly before an executive bill is presented to the National Assembly.

So I want to state that on the new national minimum wage, Mr President is going to consult further so that he can have an informed position because the new national minimum wage, as I said, is not just an issue of the federal government,” he told state house journalists after the meeting.

The tripartite committee on the new minimum wage, which comprises the government’s team, organised labour, and the organised private sector, was established in January and reviewed the wages from the current pay of N30,000 to N62,000.

Amid this, organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, has been demanding N250,000 as the minimum living wage for workers.

This is too bad for the economy.

Which consultation again for 300% increment to judges?

You already know that economy depression is in the land, release money let's people eat and not to die.

This dilabili going on with the workers wage and the state of the nation in general really shows what matters to tinubu and his gang.

When tinubu was approving the trillions for his lagos- calabar so called white project, there was no story of consultations. Infact proper due process was totally by passed and smashed to approve that so called project which is irrelevant to Nigeria of today.

Approval for presidential jets was done quickly
Approval of millions of dollars for frivilious things that has no benefit to majority of the citizens is dine quickly with little or no hassles.

Now what matters to the workers of the nation is being tossed around like a ping pong because it has no personal gain to this leadership.

When it comes to decisions that will benefit the people, you hear things like have paitence, sacrifice, etc.
When it comes to what personally benefits tinubu and his cronies, you see speed.

The nation today is in a total state of deadly coma.

When the righteous are in authority, the people. When the wicked rule , the people mourn.
This is the summary of the nation today.

I have said it before and I'm saying it now, New minimum wage will be ready in August 2026.

The difference between Tinubu and Buhari is that Buhari cares about Nigerians but he doesn't listen. Tinubu listens but doesn't care.

So FG just realized it wasn't a sole stakeholder on the national minimum wage issue. FG is playing games with NLC just to buy time.

Don't be sentimental in your opinion. Federal govt has no issue paying federal workers but the issue has to do with the state governors

NLC/TUC over to you. Action must be taken urgently. This government is wasting too much time. If it is to spend money on themselves they won't take time but to better the lot of citizens will take them forever.

In order words they want to cheat workers
If restaurant food has gone up by 200%, can’t you at least increase your workers salaries by 100%?
Everyone is already paying higher. The only person being cheated now is the salary earner.

I'm glad to be alive to witness what Kenyans are showing the useless Ruto, I hope Nigerians would borrow a leaf soon.

Anyway, some folks will still find a way to rationalize the failure of the Nigeria government and you kind of wonder if Nigerians can actually inspire change.

Well said, Buhari despite his flaws has 'empathy'...He is more of a socialist.

Tinibu is still trying to prove he is 'tough'........ He is more of a capitalist
