It hurts me to write this,
I and my father have no connection.

Whenever I try to get close to him and chat with him to create bond,
He will just say one rubbish and spoil the mood for both of us.
It will always end in quarrel. No matter how much I try

Today, I visited home. Kitchen was very dirty
I cleaned it all and scrubbed the whole house
Did some errands, everywhere looking good.

Now their is a room that I didn't clean.
My father instead of acknowledging the effort I put into making sure his house is in order
He started saying that i must be dirty because I didn't clean the other room.

I was soooo angry, I just carry my car key and drove off from the house.
I don't want to speak to that man again...
He will just open mouth waaaaaa and be taking crap. It's painful

Now check this out,
Anytime I go out of my comfort to please my dad, he will start disrespectful things to me.

But when I stop visiting, talking or sharing anything with him. He will start showing me respect.

The moment I start being friendly with my dad. He will find a way to say rubbish that will hurt me.
If I keep my distance and don't talk to him. He begins to respect me.

St this point, I think I will keep my distance to avoid all these nonesense

Broooo, I don tire. Yes he is old but very stubborn.

I just left Abuja to visit them and spend 2 weeks. Now Im thinking of going on weekends

You can do 99% good things for my father
But he will focus on the 1% that you didn't do
He will expand it and make a big deal out of it

Somebody I left my work in Abuja to visit and stay with. Now he has use his mouth to ruin the bond I tried to build with him.

I don't understand. What will make a grown man leave his own house to stay with his parents for two weeks?
Where's the respect supposed to be from?
Don't you have a life?

Sit him down man to man and discuss. He still doesn't understand that you are now a grown up and shouldn't be spoken to anyhow..

Buy books too for him to read how other fathers do it. No one is above learning

You could calmly request he rephrase the complaint while acknowledging your efforts. Do it with humility and touch his hand, thigh or back as you say it.

Teach him how to compliment while constructively criticizing.

Lastly, change yourself before you want another to change, see if it's easy.

Your parents stay with you?
How is it same with leaving your own house and perhaps family to stay with them?
